Best Online Transcription Jobs From Home

Are you looking for ways to make more money? Or a flexible, work-from-home job?

A freelance transcription job may be an excellent fit for you.

What is a transcriptionist?

The Transcription Certification Institute defines this as:

A transcriptionist is a documentation specialist who listens to voice recordings and converts them into written reports.

For example – if you wanted to create a script from a podcast video, a transcriber would write down what the person in the podcast said.

One of my top recommendations and favorite ways to learn quickly is to take a course created by someone who has been there and knows the tricks of the trade.

Transcribe Anywhere is a no-fluff step-by-step course, ideal for beginners!

Benefits of being a transcriptionist:

  • You can work from home.
  • You can have a flexible schedule
  • You can take on as little or much work as you want.
  • You can get started quickly without any experience.
  • The equipment isn't expensive.
  • You can work for different companies.

What do you need to get started as a transcriptionist?

To be a good transcriber, you must be fast and accurate at typing.

You will also need the following:

  • Access a laptop/computer and the internet if you want to work from home.

When applying for a transcribing job, you must take a typing test.

It helps companies see how fast you can work and how accurate you are.

Things you will need to buy:

A good pair of headphones

A foot pedal

The foot pedal is reasonable if you can get it for around £55.

Headphones should be around £30 on their own, so if you find them any cheaper, you have a great deal! Check current prices.

Together, these two items shouldn't be more than £100.

They are regularly offered as a bundle on Amazon for around £85. If they are any cheaper, grab them!

The link to the bundle offer will appear as a ‘Frequently Bought Together' bid, just below the large product image.

Check prices on this bundle.

Where and how do you get into transcription?

With anything new in life, the best way to start is to go ahead and make a start. There are plenty of places to start.

It's about stepping out of your comfort zone and ignoring the impulse to stop because it is unknown territory.

To get started, it is worth starting with the companies that employ beginners and going from there. As you build your experience, more and more opportunities will open up for you.
