Danganronpa 4: Will There Be Another Season?

It's been a while since the anime adaptation ended in 2016, but the fans wanted more hope and despair in Danganronpa 4. The anime adaptation was coming from the game of the same name. It has become one of the popular games because of its story and the brutal executions in each chapter.

Kazukata Kodaka created the franchise by releasing the first game in 2010, titled Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc for foreign gamers. Spike Chunsoft is developing and owning the franchise. Kazutaka then released two more main games and one spin-off game.

Lerche produced all of the anime adaptations. The first season, listed with 13 episodes, aired from July 5 to September 27, 2013. The second season is probably the unique one, split into two parts. For some reason, it was also called Danganronpa 3.

The first part, titled Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak Academy – Despair Volume, served as a prequel to the series, while the other part, called Future Volume, acted as the conclusion of the series. The Despair Volume had 11 episodes, and the Future Volume had 12 episodes, both aired in 2016.

It might end with the Future Volume, but there is still one game that Lerche has not covered yet. Will we see Danganronpa 4? Here is everything we know about the series.

Will there be Danganronpa 4?

The chance is high, and we will tell you why! But be aware, it might contain spoilers if you have not played the games or watched the anime.

First, just like we mentioned before, there is still one game that has not been adapted into anime yet. It is the third main game, Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony. The first season had fully adapted the first game, while the second season was original anime series.

If Lerche wants to renew another season, Danganronpa V3 might be the game they want to adapt into animation. The story of the second game, Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, while not being adapted, ends in Despair and Future Volume.

Or if they want to take other paths, there is still a spin-off game called Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls. It is unlikely, though, because just like the second game, the story also wraps up in Danganronpa 3. Either way, there is plenty of content to make Danganronpa 4.

Producing another season of Danganronpa could also boost the sale of the new compilation game, Danganronpa Decadence. The compilation, released on November 4, 2021, for Nintendo Switch, includes all three main games plus a new mode called Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp.

It still depends on Spike Chunsoft as the franchise owner, though, whether they want to create Danganronpa 4 or not.

Danganronpa 4 Release Date

Sadly, Spike Chunsoft has yet to release an official announcement about the release date of Danganronpa 4. However, they keep engaging the fans by releasing new merchandise and the compilation game, so the series is not abandoned yet.

The game itself is about hope and despair, but we don't want to feel the latter. Nonetheless, the fate of Danganronpa 4 is still in the hand of Spike Chunsoft.

For now, you can play the game, which has been released into many platforms, to fill the emptiness.

Plot of Danganronpa

The first season follows the story of Makoto Naegi, one of the students of Hope's Peak Academy. The school is an elite one, which accepts only talented students. Makoto is an ordinary individual but gets admitted by chance, thus making him Super High School-Level Luck.

Unfortunately for him, Makoto and his classmates wake up on the first day to find out that Monokuma traps them. Monukuma, a bear-shaped principal, forces them to play a murder game, where the murderer could graduate if they can kill students without being discovered. However, if they get caught, the murderer will be executed by Monokuma.

The Despair Volume occurs before the first season (the first game) and serves as the prequel to the second game. Finally, the Future Volume occurs after two main games and a spin-off game, concluding Makoto's story.
