Death Note: Quick Recap
A shinigami, as a god of death, can kill any person—provided they see their victim's face and write their victim's name in a notebook called a Death Note. One day, Ryuk, bored by the shinigami lifestyle and interested in seeing how a human would use a Death Note, drops one into the human realm.
High school student and prodigy Light Yagami stumble upon the Death Note and since he deplores the state of the world, he tests the deadly notebook by writing a criminal's name in it. When the criminal dies immediately following his experiment with the Death Note, Light is greatly surprised and quickly recognizes how devastating the power that has fallen into his hands could be.
With this divine capability, Light decides to extinguish all criminals in order to build a new world where crime does not exist and people worship him as a god. Police, however, quickly discover that a serial killer is targeting criminals and, consequently, try to apprehend the culprit. To do this, the Japanese investigators count on the assistance of the best detective in the world: a young and eccentric man known only by the name of L.
Death Note Season 2: Will It Ever Happen?
Death Note Season 2 Release Date
We have been waiting for the sequel to the original Death Note anime for so long. There is a lot of speculation that the Death Note Season 2 is on its way. Unfortunately, there is still no official confirmation that a sequel to the original anime is underway.
You might be wondering why it took so long for Madhouse to make a sequel to this series even though the first anime was very popular, right?
One of the main reasons is the lack of source material for the story. The manga on which the series is based contains 108 chapters collected in 12 tankobon volumes. The anime adaptation of the first season has pretty much consumed the source material.
However, there is still new hope for fans of this anime!
Because in February 2020, a stand-alone ‘Death Note: Special One Shot' written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata was published. Standalone is set ten years after the events of Kira, featuring a new story for the Death Note franchise.
