DIY How to Make Cold Brew Iced Coffee at Home

One of the biggest issues that comes up in our Spending Fasters Community in the warm summer months is the struggle to stay caffeinated in the heat! I've struggled with this too so I HAD to share how I stay out of the coffee shop drive through and keep my hard earned bucks IN my pocket!

This iced coffee/cold brew recipe is SO easy (and so forgiving) you'll be shocked!

Pro Tip: This Cold Brew Iced Coffee Maker Pitcher with Lid and Handle simplifies the process quite a bit.

Please note: Coffee experts will likely notice that I'm using the terms “cold brew” and “iced coffee” interchangeably in this post. For my purposes (get your caffeine without getting overheated) that works! The difference between cold brew and iced coffee is in the brewing. Iced coffee is made with hot water and cold brew is created with cold water. People will often say that the cold brew method creates and “crisper”, “stronger” taste. It's completely up to you depending on your personal taste preferences!

Super Easy Homemade Iced Coffee Recipe:

  1. Dump 1 lb of ground coffee into a container (I have 2 of these 4 quart food storage containers and 1 lid that I like to use for this)
  2. Pour 4 cups of boiling water into container of grounds (or use cold water, see note above)
  3. Stir, put on lid, let cool in refrigerator for at least 12 hours
  4. After at least 12 hours of steeping, pour the coffee mixture through a cheesecloth

Super Easy Homemade Cold Brew Recipe:

  1. Pour 2 cups of ground coffee into a container (I have 2 of these 4 quart food storage containers and 1 lid that I like to use for this)
  2. Pour 8 cups of cold, filtered water into the container of grounds
  3. Stir, put on lid, steep at room temperature for at least 12 hours
  4. After at least 12 hours of steeping, pour the coffee mixture through a cheesecloth

The cold brew coffee recipe will be concentrated so be sure to add ice, milk, or flavoring to tweak it to your liking!
