How to Take Care of Yourself Without Spending Money
Self-care is a BIG-time buzz-word these days! Everyone is talking about it but sometimes “self-care” ends up meaning you’re shelling out the bucks for taking care of yourself. And, if spending money is a problem for you then doing “self-care” can mean an easy excuse and justification to spend money you maybe shouldn’t.
Here are some free and low-cost self-care ideas!
- Move your body
- Read for pleasure
- Turn off the notifications on your phone
- Take a social media sabbatical
- Go camping
- Practice boundaries
- Practice saying “no”
- Pay attention to how you feel after you hang out with people. If you don’t feel good, limit your time with them. If you feel good, increase your time with them.
- Ask for help
- Allow others to help you
- Tackle a nagging task
- Listen to your favorite podcast
- Let it go
- Practice self-love mantras
- Develop a morning routine
- Celebrate others
- Get out of debt (just literally the best gift you could EVER give yourself)
- Go to bed early
- Take a long shower
- Take a bath
- Watch guilty-pleasure TV
- Call a friend
- Coffee with a friend (it’s important that the people you connect with as “self-care” are ones that you can be honest with and be your true self)
- Walk around the park
- Sit in the sun
- Take 10 deep breaths
- Put one hand on your belly and the other on your heart, close your eyes and breathe (I learned this tip from my friend Erin)
- List 10 things your grateful for
- Blast music at the highest volume and sing alone
- Have a dance party
- Take vitamins
- Drink water
- Stay away from alcohol (it’s a depressant)
- Journal AKA Brain Dump of all the things swirling around in your mind
- Write a letter of forgiveness to yourself (I teach how to do this in the Spending Fast Bootcamp)
- Eat some ice cream
