Coronation Street: Sally Dynevor did not leave the soapie after signing up for Dancing On Ice, opting to juggle between the two, which resulted in sporadic hiatuses.
Coronation Street fans, or Corries as they are popularly referred to, were afraid for the fate of one of the longest lasting actresses and beloved characters of the soapie, Sally Dynevor in the role of Sally Metcalfe.
In February 2022, when news of her joining the cast of Dancing On Ice was confirmed, fans thought she would leave the soapie.
However, Dynevor only took her first break seemingly to focus on the rehearsals, and later returned, occasionally taking sporadic exits. However, the actress is still not leaving Coronation Street, which she credits for saving her life.
What is Coronation Street?
Coronation Street is not only the longest-running soap opera in England, but it is widely regarded as the longest-running soapie in the world.
This is a record it continues to hold as it has been airing since 1960, with this year marking the sixty second year since the show first premiered on ITV.
Coronation Street was created by the acclaimed screenwriter, Tony Warren, and the premise of the soapie is, “…Coronation Street focuses on the everyday lives of working-class people in Manchester, England,” according to IMDb.
Sally Dynevor is one of the cast members that have been with the soapie the longest, first appearing in 1986.
Is Sally leaving Coronation Street?
Sally Dynevor plays Sally Metcalfe in Coronation Street. The first of her most recent exits, which scared fans, happened at the beginning of the year.
The break was intended for the actress to take time away to begin rehearsals and preparations for her appearance on Dancing On Ice.
In the world of the show, her exit was explained as her taking time away to spend with her sisters. In March 2022, she returned for another brief stint, then came back to bond with her husband, Tim, who had recently undergone triple-bypass surgery.
When her mother-in-law became their houseguest, Sally decided to go back to her sister until Tim’s mother left. Dynevor has asserted that she does not plan to leave the soapie.
Sally Dynevor on juggling Coronation Street and Dancing On Ice
Dynevor has been adamant about squashing any speculation that she is leaving Coronation Street.
The acclaimed and beloved actress asserted, “I’ll have to do both, which I know from the other cast who have done Dancing On Ice have said it’s quite tough.”
She went on to add, “I’ve been in Corrie for 35 years and I’ve loved every minute of it but to be given an opportunity to do something that’s different from Coronation Street is wonderful and I’m really looking forward to it.”
The actress’ commitment to the soapie is understandable considering that, in a sense, it saved her life.
Coronation Street saves Sally Dynevor
The popular saying that life imitates art, was never truer than it was when Coronation Street saved actress, Sally Dynevor’s life.
This is because in 2009, Dynevor’s character, Sally, played a storyline where the character discovered that she had breast cancer.
The storyline inspired Dynevor to have her breasts examined and discovered that she, too, had breast cancer. She took time off to fight the cancer and six months later, returned to reprise her role.
Moreover, to mark 10 years of being cancer free, Sally completed the hike to Mount Everest Base Camp.
Sally Dynevor on Coronation Street saving her life
Seemingly, Coronation Street holds a special place in Sally Dynevor’s heart.
Reflecting on how the show saved her life, the actress stated, “It was unbelievable. It’s a period in my life that I can’t quite believe happened. We always say that life mirrors art on Corrie but it was really strange. I just refer to it as a blip. We have to move on.”
Going on to confirm that, “If it wasn’t for Coronation Street I never would have gone to the doctors. I was in total denial. I remember saying: ‘I’m sure it’s nothing, I’m sure I’m wasting your time.’”
Coronation Street’s Sally Dynevor, in the role of Sally Metcalfe, is not going anywhere, if the actress that has been with the soapie for 36 years has anything to say about it.
This is as speculation on whether she would leave the soapie or not was rife when news of her being cast as part of Dancing On Ice was publicised.
But Dynevor made it clear that she is not leaving the soapie. However, she will be juggling both responsibilities.
As a result, she might occasionally be absent from the world of the story, but after her appearance on Dancing On Ice, she will return to her role permanently.
