Here's the thing, no matter how old you are or where you are financially, TODAY is the best day to get serious about becoming financially independe
Why wait 30 or 40 years to achieve what I can teach you to do in 15 years or less? Start TODAY!
Do you love your job? If yes, you are in the minority. Do you see yourself working 30-40-50 years? If you are like me and love working, then the answer may be yes, but it doesn't make having financial independence any less important. Time moves so fast as demonstrated by the chart on the right.
The beauty of this recipe for financial independence is that it puts you in the drivers seat and does not rely on Social Security being there when you retire (if its even there). It's a combination of “baking” and “cooking” mindsets meaning sometimes its an easy follow directions (like Phase One) and other times decisions are based according to your own taste.
Phase One: Get Real
1. Run Credit report. (Numbers don't lie… or do they.)
2. Calculate Net Worth (How many ways can we calculate net worth?)
3. Get Credit Score (700 or better baby!)
4. Create a “Fun” Budget (If its not fun, your not doing it right.)
a) Get Organized: Pick your tools.
b) Create Budget: I spent how much??
5. Get a cat and name him/her Ms./Mr. McFluffers (ok you caught me, my daughter typed this one in… its a gimme).
That's pretty much it, except for step 5, that's optional. FULL DISCLOSURE: we are animal lovers. If you are thinking of adding a fur-baby to your home (& budget), adopt from a nonprofit or shelter. More on this in a later post.
Thank you for allowing me to be part of your journey! I am so excited and look forward to hearing from you in the comments section below.
