Yellowstone season 4 is currently on Peacock, which is surprising, seeing that it was expected to be made available on Paramount Plus as the show aired live on the Paramount Network.
Following the season four finale, it was confirmed that hit neo-Western drama series, Yellowstone, has been renewed for a fifth season.
However, it was already in the cards long-before the confirmation, considering the ratings the series received during its latest run.
With that, the production has forged on, surprising the fans with an announcement of where the current season will be hosted, which was not the expected platform that fans believed it would be.
Paramount Network announced that the complete season four of Yellowstone will be available through the paid-subscription video-on-demand platform Peacock.
This was a surprise in light of Paramount Network having its own video-on-demand platform Paramount Plus, where the season could have been hosted.
What is Yellowstone?
Yellowstone is the popular neo-Western drama which first premiered in 2018. The series is the brainchild of John Linson and Taylor Sheridan.
The premise of the series is, “A ranching family in Montana faces off against others encroaching on their land,” according to IMDb.
The series is fronted by acclaimed actor and executive producer Kevin Costner as the head of the Dutton family, who owns the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States.
For four seasons, we have watched as alliances shift, murders remained unsolved and the power dynamics within the Dutton family continually shift.
Yellowstone: Season 4 on Peacock and not Paramount Plus
Season four of Yellowstone concluded in January 2022. The season finale was touted as the most-watched cable telecast since The Walking Dead’s season eight premiere, after amassing an estimated 9.3 million live and same day viewers during its airing.
The success of the fourth season prompted confirmation of the series' fifth season, which was already in the cards due to the growing popularity of the neo-Western.
However, the biggest surprise came when Paramount Network announced where the complete season would be hosted following its live run on the network.
Paramount Network confirmed that the Costner-fronted season four would be available through the NBCUniversal’s Peacock, rather than the expected newly launched paid-subscription video-on-demand platform by the network, Paramount Plus.
Speaking on the announcement, Paramount Global President and CEO Bob Bakish, remarked on the news by calling it “unfortunate”, sharing no further reactions to the news.
