It's been more than a decade, but we still hope to see the adventure of Holo and Lawrence once again in Spice and Wolf Season 3. The anime adaptation is based on the light novel of the same name, written by Isuna Hasekura.
While it is a fantasy series, Spice and Wolf takes a different path than many of the same genre. Rather than telling the story of swords and magic, the plot of Ookami to Koushinryou (Japanese name of Spice and Wolf) focuses on economics, trade, and peddling. Because of that approach, the series has been called a unique fantasy by Mainichi Shimbun.
The first season was produced by a studio named Imagin, listed with 13 episodes. However, the second installment was made by other studios, which are Brain's Base (Blood Lad, To Your Eternity, Kiss Him Not Me, Gakuen Babysitters & In/Spectre) and Marvy Jack.
But, just like we said at the beginning of this article, it's been years since the last episode of Spice and Wolf, which aired in 2009. Will it get a renewal? Is there any hope? Here is everything we know about Spice and Wolf Season 3.
Will there be Spice and Wolf Season 3?
Those who enjoy reading Spice and Wolf might have plenty of content to enjoy, but it is a long journey for those who want to watch the animation.
The author once stopped writing the novel after volume 16 came out; however, fans rejoiced when Isuna Hasekura continued the story in 2016. With the revisited from the author, fans of the anime were also hoping that Spice and Wolf Season 3 might finally happen. Sadly, the wish has not been granted until now. There is no news about the renewal for the third season yet.
To add more salt to the wound, the author seems not interested in bringing back the anime. Hesekura has expressed the said opinion despite the push from the fans.
Well, don't let your hope die, though. Some anime return after a long hiatus, so in this case, we can only pray that the author will have a change of heart.
Spice and Wolf Season 3 Release Date
As we discussed above, there is no official release date for Spice and Wolf Season 3. It would be best if you didn't have high anticipation, but there is some evidence that it might be happen in the future.
Since Hesekura picked up the pen once again to write Spice and Wolf, the series now has published a total of 23 volumes. Naturally, there is a concern about the past anime adaptation skipping some of the material; however, that significant number of books also means plenty of content to be covered for Spice and Wolf Season 3.
Other evidence is the two VR games. Hasekura, who isn't interested in making more anime of his work, somehow made two VR games of Spice and Wolf. The first came in 2019, while the sequel was released in 2020. Both games were created by Spicy Tails, a doujin group founded by Hasekura.
Again, we can only hope that the author has the same energy to make Spice and Wolf Season 3, like when Hasekura made those VR games.
