Making Gingerbread Oatmilk Chai Latte hot and cold drinks kept barista Dave and his colleagues busy last Thursday.
“I think we sold about 100” of the Gingerbread Oatmeal's, Dave, who did not want to give his surname, said.
A colleague chimed in saying that something new, sweet and with the cuteness connotated by a gingerbread man dancing in customers’ heads has to be a big seller.
Peppermint Mocha Back as a Favorite
A few blocks away at another Starbucks on First Avenue, Peppermint Mocha, back on the menu for the 21st time, was the day’s top seller off the newly released seasonal menu.
A server there said he thought all the whip cream was an added enticement for those with a sweet tooth.
Joining gingerbread oat milk chai and peppermint mocha on the ‘Tis this Season Starbucks menu are Chestnut Praline Latte, Iced Sugar Cookie Almond Milk Latte and Caramel Brulée Latte.
“When we were looking at trends when designing this year’s holiday, we kept seeing bright, bold, uplifting colors,” said Kristy Cameron, creative director at Starbucks, in a news release.
Pastries Back, Too
Holiday pastries and treats are also back, including the Cranberry Bliss® Bar, gingerbread loaf, peppermint brownie cake pop, snowman cookie and sugar plum cheese danish.
The new iced gingerbread oat milk chai combines “warm gingerbread notes, a cozy blend of chai spices, and creamy oat milk to create a cold holiday beverage that is perfectly balanced by the comforting flavors of the season,” the Starbucks press release says.
The caramel brulée latte has Starbucks espresso roast, steamed milk and caramel brulée sauce, topped with whipped cream and caramel brulée bits.
The Oleato gingerbread oat milk latte, which features Starbucks blonde espresso, warm notes of gingerbread and steamed oat milk, infused with Partanna extra virgin olive oil and finished with a subtle dusting of bright ginger and citrus flavors, the press release touts.
Olive oil? Consumers will be sure to weigh in on that addition in their drink.
Don't Forget the Colorful Cups
Starbucks holiday cups with red, white and green designs have also returned with the company debuting four new holiday hot cup designs and a holiday cold cup.
As in the past, some Starbucks stores will give customers a collectible red cup with their order to keep this year. Red Cup Day 2023 will likely be Nov. 16, according to various reports, based on the giveaway day traditionally being the third Thursday in November.
Despite all the temptations ‘tis not quite yet the season to switch the routine for some Starbucks regulars.
Chris, who was out walking his dog Friday morning in New York, said he “might try the new drinks when it gets closer to Christmas.”
For now, he was sticking to what he was holding in his hand.
“Straight black,” he said as the Starbucks logo on his plastic cup glimmered in the sunlight.
