5 Things You Need To Stock Up On In May

5 Things to Stock Up on in May

Spring is finally here and I can’t help but revel in the sudden shift in the air (do you love it as much as I do?) The days are longer, the sun shines brighter and the shopping deals are even a little sweeter!

Having a PRE-prepared shopping list can help us save money and take advantage of current deals and sales cycles. (A sales cycle is where certain items are sold at a discount during a particular time of the month.)

Having a plan also helps to ensure that we avoid “Panic Buying”. We always want to be avoiding the things that we don’t NEED and focusing on the things that we actually, legitimately do NEED.

So much of getting, and staying, out of debt, is about having a plan and sticking to it.

To help you come up with a list of the things you should consider stocking up on in May, we’ve compiled a few items to consider.

Here are the Top 5 Items to Think About Stocking Up on in May:

Seasonal Produce

The key to saving money with grocery shopping, especially on produce, is to shop ONLY in-season fruits and vegetables. We often get strawberries, clementines, broccoli, apricots, blackberries, cantaloupe and cherries, super cheap and on sale by sticking to the product that’s “in-season”.

I’ve noticed that some stores even offer a free piece of fruit if they’re trying to unload some of their inventory.

Memorial Day Products

Memorial Day is coming up fast, and with this holiday, comes endless barbecues and parties. To help you gear up for the holiday, stores will often place Memorial Day related products on sale. Just to name a few things that tend to go on sale around Memorial Day, be on the lookout for chips, hot dogs, barbeque sauce and charcoal.

Also, paper products such as napkins, cups, paper plates and utensils will be on sale.

Allergy Medicine

With spring, comes the blooming of flowers and hence, allergies. (I am raising my hand over here since I’m definitely a big victim of allergies!) Medicines such as Advil, Allegra, and off-brand/generic Allegra tend to be on sale in the month of May.

Sunscreen

May is the month to stock up on sunscreen before the summer sun beats down on us. Numerous stores often place sunscreen products on sale, regardless of the brand.

Salad Dressing

After mentioning that seasonal produce is on sale in May, you probably saw this coming. You can purchase salads and salad dressings as low as $0.65 in price. This helps you stock up for a couple of months on some quality salad supplies at a cheaper price than usual.

The above items are not the only products that are often on sale in the month of May. Pet products, cookies and Cinco De Mayo products are usually sold for a huge discount as well. Go over the inventory of what you have and what you need. Write up a list of things to be on the lookout for in May and you’ll be well on your way to saving tons of money.
