The Saga of Tanya the Evil begins with an unnamed salaryman in 2013 modern-era Tokyo. The salaryman was murdered by an unsatisfied coworker who he had fired due to poor performance at work. Who is then confronted by a mysterious entity calling itself as God. The salaryman didn’t believe in God as they are an atheist, criticizes and mock the entity by calling it ‘Being X.’ Disgruntled by the salaryman’s behavior, Being X then reincarnates the salaryman into another world. 

The salaryman is then reincarnated as Tanya Degurechaff, an orphaned girl in an alternate reality of Imperial Germany during World War I which dragged into the 1920s. By putting the salaryman in a trying time where death and conflict is always near, Tanya would be forced to turn to Being X for help. If Tanya does not either die from natural death or refuses to have faith in Being X, her soul will leave the cycle of reincarnation and be sent to hell for the countless sins she has done. 

Refusing to bend to Being X’s desire, Tanya decided to join the Empire’s Mage Corps and join the war in hope to climb up the ranks as fast as possible to ensure safety and the risk of getting killed. Even if she’s now in the body of a little girl, Tanya is a ruthless soldier in the battlefield. Her expertise and skills in combat somehow propelled the Empire into becoming one of the most powerful nations known to mankind. 

The Saga of Tanya the Evil Season 2 Has Been Announced!

The Saga of Tanya the Evil season 2 was announced on June 19, 2021 in a special program of The Saga of Tanya the Evil by AbemaTV called Survivor Memorial Roundtable: Reliving the Fierce Battle (Seikan Kinen Zadan-kai: Gekitou wo Furikaette). The show also revealed a teaser poster for the second season and the cast from season one will once again reprise their respective roles along with the same production staff. 

The Saga of Tanya the Evil is an action fantasy light novel written by Carlo Zen published by Arcadia. The first volume of the light novel was released on October 31, 2013. As of now, there are twelve volumes of the novel with its latest release on February 20, 2020. On 16th November 2021, Yen Press released an audiobook of the first light novel with the English voice actor for Tanya Degurechaff, Monica Rial, reading it.

The Saga of Tanya the Evil Season 2 Release Date

After the announcement of the second season of the series, there’s no information of the exact date of season 2 just yet. Though, with the announcement of the second season has been confirmed, it’s just a matter of time before they release the official date. It has been confirmed that the main cast will reprise their respective roles along with the lead staff that has worked on the first season. 

The first season of The Saga of Tanya the Evil is a twelve episode television anime back in Winter 2017. It aired from January 7, 2017 and ends on March 31, 2017 every Friday at 22:00 Japan Standard Time. The opening theme is sung by Myth & Roid titled “JINGO JUNGLE” and the ending theme is “Los!Los!Los!” by Aoi Yuuki as Tanya Degurechaff. Along with the anime, there is a short chibi parody OVA titled Youjo Senki (The Saga of Tanya the Evil) produced by Studio Puyukai. 

A sequel movie called The Saga of Tanya the Evil: The Movie was announced in January 2018 with the film premiering on January 18 2019 which grossed over 420 million yen (approximately US$3.8 million). The movie is also available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
