Sling TV has a handy built-in Cloud DVR feature, which allows you to record your favorite shows, and even organize and watch them later on.
Switching from cable to a television streaming service is not always as straightforward as it seems. Many users find themselves missing key features once they make the leap to streaming.
Sling TV has always been among the top television streaming services on the market, mostly because of its packages, which offer less content at a more affordable price point.
But although Sling TV is so affordable, the service does lack other kinds of fan-favorite features.
Sling TV’s built-in DVR feature
In fact, if you have found yourself longing to record shows, the way you used to with your cable subscription, you will be glad to hear that all of the Sling TV paid-subscription plans includes a built-in DVR feature.
That’s right – you will be able to record a selection from all of your favorite shows directly on the Sling TV app, which is available on a wide array of streaming devices, including Amazon Fire TVs, Android TVs and mobile devices, Apple TVs, iOS mobile devices, Roku devices and more.
If you are a particularly tech-savvy cord-cutter, you may already know that adding an antenna to your Sling TV setup can give you access to some of the local channels which are not available through the service.
The good news is that you will also be able to record content for most of these channels through the Sling TV DVR feature as well.
And although the standard Cloud DVR feature is automatically included with any of Sling TV’s current paid packages, your DVR storage space is not unlimited, so it is important that you not only understand how to record shows with Sling TV, but also how to manage your recordings effectively.
What you get with Sling TV’s built-in recording feature
Sling TV’s Orange, Blue, or even the Sling Orange & Blue package, all include limited Cloud DVR storage space for free, but subscribers who want access to even more DVR recordings can opt for the DVR Plus add-on.
These different DVR options can be summarized as follows:
|Cloud DVR storage space
|Standard DVR option included with any Sling TV paid package
|Up to 50 hours
|DVR Plus add-on
|$5 extra per month
|Up to 200 hours
How to record content on the Sling TV app
The Sling TV app’s interface will differ slightly, based on the device that you are using, but the steps for recording a show should look something like the following:
- Step 1: Open your Sling TV app
- Step 2: Navigate to the “Guide” menu (which should be somewhere on the main taskbar of this main screen)
- Step 3: Find and select the show that you want to record
- Step 4: Click on the “Record” button (which should be right next to the “Watch Live” button)
- Step 5: Select your preferred recording method from the options provided
How to manage your recordings on Sling TV
When you are ready to start watching the content that you have recorder through Sling TV’s DVR feature, you will be able to find and manage this content, by following these steps:
- Step 1: Make sure that you are back on the Sling TV main screen
- Step 2: Find and click on the “Cloud DVR” storage menu, which is located on the same taskbar as the “Guide” menu (look out for the cloud-shaped icon)
You will be able to view, organize and watch all of your recorded content from this tab. You will also notice that you are able to “Lock” or “Delete” specific recordings when you select them from this page.
Locking a recording will protect it from being deleted if/when your storage space starts to run out and deleting it will remove that recording from your DVR storage permanently.
