It's been eight years long, and the series fans are still hoping to see The World God Only Knows Season 4. So naturally, it is concerning for a series not to have a sequel for a long time, but let's break it down first.
Known as Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai in Japan, it is an anime adaptation of the manga of the same name written by Tamiki Wakaki. It began serialization in Weekly Shounen Sunday in April 2008. Since then, Tamaki Wakaki has published 26 volumes, excluding two light novels that Mamizu Arisawa wrote.
Manglobe made three anime adaptations for the series. The first season, announced in April 2010, was airing from October 6 to December 22, 2010. A sequel aired in the following year, while the third was from July 8 to September 23, 2013. Manglobe also produced several OVAs, released between 2010 and 2013.
The series was popular back in the day, with the manga and merchandise sold like hotcakes. Anime adaptations also received so much positive review and three seasons of it proved the popularity. But, it is enough to make The World God Only Knows Season 4? Or the charming romantic-comedy will never see its fourth season? Here is everything we know about the series.
Will there be The World God Only Knows Season 4?
The chance to have The World God Only Knows Season 4 is low; here are some reasons.
The first one is, of course, the source material. Unfortunately, the manga ended in 2014, and Tamiki Wakaki has already moved on by making another series. The anime adaptation is usually used to promote manga. Since there is no manga to promote anymore, there is no reason to make The World God Only Knows Season 4.
The second reason is the studio behind the anime adaptation, Manglobe. Sadly, the studio filed for bankruptcy in 2015 and being defunct since then. The third season, The World God Only Knows: Goddesses is one of the projects that Manglobe handheld before the end of its service. The closed studio animation is probably the reason why we are not getting The World God Only Knows Season 4.
With eight years gap, no manga to promote, and no studio to produce, the sight of The World God Only Knows Season 4 is nowhere to be seen.
The World God Only Knows Season 4 Release Date
There is no official announcement about The World God Only Knows Season 4. With Manglobe closed down, it is not surprising. It has also passed its tenth anniversary of the first season. However, there is a chance for it to happen.
In 2015, Manglobe was somewhat reborn as a new studio named Geno Studio. The new studio is a subsidiary of Twin Engine, a production company founded by previous Noitamina producer Kouji Yamamoto. Most of Geno Studio's staff came from Manglobe. Tamaki Wakaki became good friends with Manglobe's staff, so if there is interest in making another season, we might see The World God Only Knows Season 4.
If Geno Studio doesn't make it, we can hope that another studio is brave enough to dig down the grave of the series. We have seen so many cases about the change of anime studio, so it may apply to The World God Only Knows Season 4.
