Alexandra Grant is sharing a rare look at life with Keanu Reeves, but her answer is not built around red carpets or romance rumors.

The visual artist spoke about Reeves while promoting LOVEwine, her new wine collaboration tied to her grantLOVE initiative. In a new PEOPLE interview, Grant said their relationship works because both of them understand creative focus, feedback, and the need to give each other room.

Grant, 53, has been romantically linked to Reeves, 61, since 2019, but their creative connection started years before they became public as a couple.

Grant Said Respect Comes First

Grant said Reeves is careful when giving feedback on her work, and she tries to offer him the same care.

“He’s always so appreciative, so he’s always cautious, I think, with feedback, and I would say the same,” Grant told PEOPLE. “You want to always be respectful and leave the other person to bake their cake.”

She said they can talk through a creative problem when needed, but they also understand when the other person needs to work quietly or disappear into a different process.

She Said She Has “Lived With John Wick” and “Lived With Neo”

Grant’s funniest answer also gave the interview its clearest relationship detail. She said part of their shared life is understanding that projects have their own rules, timelines, and demands.

“I’ve lived with John Wick, I’ve lived with Neo,” Grant told PEOPLE, referring to two of Reeves’ most famous roles.

Grant said she respects the way Reeves enters a character. She compared that focus to the way she works when she is fully in painting mode, saying painting is not acting but can still feel like a form of performance.

Their Relationship Started With a Book

Reeves and Grant’s public relationship began years after their first collaboration. E! News noted that they first worked together on Ode to Happiness, the 2011 book written by Reeves and illustrated by Grant, before stepping out publicly as a couple in 2019.

That history gives Grant’s new comments a different shape from a standard celebrity-couple update. She is not only talking about dating a famous actor. She is describing a relationship that grew out of making things together.

The pair later co-founded X Artists’ Books, a Los Angeles-based publishing house focused on artist-centered books. The company’s official site says it was established in 2017.

The Interview Came During Grant’s LOVEwine Launch

Grant’s comments came during the Los Angeles launch of LOVEwine, a collaboration between J Vineyards & Winery and grantLOVE.

J Vineyards describes the project as a limited-edition California Brut Cuvée created with Grant’s art and design initiative. The winery says the collaboration is built around women, creativity, wine, and the art world.

PEOPLE reported that Grant’s interest in wine began during a childhood summer in Paris with her mother, an American diplomat. The project now gives Grant another place to connect art, process, memory, and collaboration.

Grant Kept the Focus on Creative Partnership

Grant’s interview did not turn her life with Reeves into a dramatic relationship reveal. Her comments stayed close to how they work, listen, and give each other space.

She said the “key” is mutual respect and play, and described both herself and Reeves as people who believe in projects.

That is the useful detail in the interview: Grant is not presenting the relationship as a mystery to decode. She is describing two creative people who know when to talk, when to listen, and when to let the other person work.
