Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter Zahara no longer legally carries the hyphenated surname she grew up with.
A Los Angeles judge granted the 21-year-old’s petition on Sept. 28, officially changing her name from Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt to Zahara Marley Jolie.
E! News obtained the court order, which says there were no objections and that the decree had been signed and filed.The ruling formalizes a name Zahara had already been using publicly for several years.
She introduced herself as Zahara Marley Jolie during a 2023 Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. event and was announced by that name again when she crossed the stage at her Spelman College graduation in May.
Zahara Started the Legal Process Months Before the Hearing
Zahara signed her name-change petition on April 28 and moved the request through Los Angeles Superior Court in early June. The filing asked the court to remove “Pitt” from her surname and recognize Zahara Marley Jolie as her legal name.
The process then moved into California’s public-notice stage. TMZ reported that notice of the proposed change appeared in the Los Angeles Daily Journal on June 16, June 23, June 30 and July 7, giving anyone who objected an opportunity to respond before the Sept. 28 hearing.
No objection was filed. PEOPLE‘s review of the completed case records confirms that the judge approved the request Monday, making Zahara Marley Jolie her legal name.
She Had Already Been Introducing Herself as Zahara Marley Jolie

The court order catches up with a public name Zahara began using well before she filed any paperwork. During her November 2023 induction into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. at Spelman College, she stepped forward and introduced herself as “Zahara Marley Jolie”, according to ESSENCE. At the time, however, her legal surname remained Jolie-Pitt.
At her May 2026 graduation, the commencement program listed her as Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt, but the name announced as she crossed the stage was Zahara Marley Jolie.
Zahara Is the Third Sibling to Complete a Legal Name Change
Zahara follows two of her siblings in legally removing “Pitt” from a hyphenated surname. Shiloh filed to become Shiloh Jolie on her 18th birthday in May 2024, and a judge approved that change later that summer. Maddox became Maddox Chivan Jolie after his own petition was granted on Sept. 14, 2026.
PEOPLE now identifies Zahara as the third of Jolie and Pitt’s six children to complete the legal process. Vivienne also filed after turning 18 in July to change her name from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie, but her hearing is not scheduled until Nov. 2.
