Benny Blanco says he lost 4.7 pounds after eating pizza as his only food for five days, dropping from 152.2 pounds to 147.5 during an experiment he documented for social media.
The 38-year-old producer made one large thin-crust cheese pizza from Domino’s his daily allotment for the challenge. He said he wanted to show that it was possible to lose weight while eating any type of food, then documented his starting and ending weights on a scale.
Blanco’s enthusiasm did not survive every meal. He complained after discovering that somebody had eaten part of his daily pizza, brought his own slices to a date with wife Selena Gomez and announced by the third day that he was already tired of eating it.
The final weigh-in produced the number he was hoping to see, but the five-day experiment did not determine how much of the change represented body fat rather than water, food in his digestive system or other normal short-term fluctuations. Blanco ended the stunt by promoting his forthcoming second book, F*ck Failure.

Blanco opened the video by stepping on a scale that read 152.2 pounds. He explained that a large thin-crust Domino’s cheese pizza would account for everything he ate each day, dividing it into 16 small pieces to spread through the day.
The plan soon ran into an unexpected problem when Blanco returned to work and discovered that someone had eaten several of his allotted slices. He reacted with disbelief but continued the challenge with what remained.
On the second day, Blanco took the experiment to Los Angeles’ Sunset Tower Hotel during a date with Gomez. Page Six reported that Gomez ate the restaurant’s food while Blanco kept his own pizza beneath the table and ate from it during their meal. The video also showed Gomez kissing his neck as he stuck to the challenge.
By Day Three, Blanco Said He Was Tired of Pizza
Whatever novelty the experiment had at the beginning was fading quickly. By the third day, Blanco told the camera, “I’m tired of pizza,” before adding, “I hate my life.”
He nevertheless continued through Day 5. By then, Blanco joked that he could barely remember life before pizza, although he also said he felt energetic as the challenge approached its end.
When he stepped back onto the scale, it displayed 147.5 pounds, 4.7 pounds below his starting weight. “I just lost 4.7 pounds in five days eating only pizza,” Blanco declared. As Just Jared noted, Blanco used the result to make a broader motivational point about being able to do what he wanted.
The 4.7-Pound Difference Does Not Mean He Lost 4.7 Pounds of Fat
Blanco’s experiment included two publicly shown scale readings five days apart. He did not provide a complete calorie count, activity log, hydration record or body-composition measurements that would establish what accounted for the difference.
Cleveland Clinic explains that daily body weight commonly fluctuates by several pounds and can be affected by water retention, sodium and carbohydrate intake, digestion, physical activity and other factors. Its experts describe an average daily fluctuation window of roughly five to six pounds. A standard scale also cannot separate body fat from water, muscle and the contents of the digestive system.
The Pizza Experiment Ended With a Plug for F*ck Failure
Immediately after announcing his final weight, Blanco pivoted to his upcoming book and held a copy up for the camera. The producer previously combined his interest in food with publishing through Open Wide: A Cookbook for Friends, released in April 2024. The cookbook became a New York Times bestseller and focused on recipes, entertaining and Blanco’s approach to cooking for other people.
F*ck Failure moves away from recipes. The official Simon & Schuster page describes the book as Blanco’s guide to using mistakes and failed attempts as part of the process of pursuing creative and professional goals. The 208-page book is scheduled for release on September 15, 2026.
