Brian Austin Green is reflecting on what he learned after the end of his marriage to Megan Fox, and he is being direct about the relationship pattern he says he no longer wants to repeat.
E! News reported that Green opened up about his former marriage during an appearance on the I Do, Part 2 podcast. Just Jared reported that the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum said he “led with physical attraction” during his nearly 15-year relationship with Fox.
Green framed the comments as self-reflection, using the podcast conversation to explain how his understanding of love and partnership changed after divorce.
Green Said He Used to Build Relationships Around Chemistry
Green said that before his current relationship with Sharna Burgess, he often started with physical attraction and tried to build the rest of the relationship around it.
He said that was true of his relationship with Fox, whom he was with for almost 15 years and married to for nearly a decade.
He said the end of the marriage pushed him to look at his own patterns and figure out what he brought into relationships that was not healthy.
Therapy Changed How He Looks at Love
People reported that Green said therapy helped him understand why he wanted to approach future relationships differently.
He said he did not expect to be divorced, and after becoming a single parent, he knew he did not want to repeat the same mistakes.
Green said he now believes friendship should come before romance. In his view, a relationship that begins with real emotional connection gives both people more room to be honest, transparent and secure.
His Relationship With Sharna Burgess Started Differently

Green said his relationship with Burgess began from a place of genuine friendship. The two spent hours talking when they first met, and he said they were honest early about both their best qualities and their flaws.
Entertainment Weekly reported that Green sees that foundation as a major difference from relationships that begin mostly with physical chemistry.
Green and Burgess made their relationship public in January 2021, later competed together on Dancing With the Stars and welcomed son Zane in 2022. Green proposed in 2023.
Green and Fox Share Three Children
Green and Fox first met while filming Hope & Faith in 2004 and married in 2010. They share three sons: Noah, Bodhi and Journey.
Fox filed for divorce in November 2020, and People reported that a judge signed off on the final divorce settlement in February 2022.
Both have since moved on. Green is engaged to Burgess, while Fox shares daughter Saga Blade with MGK.
