It took only a few seconds on a French red carpet for Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz Beckham to find their marriage under scrutiny again.
A video from the Deauville American Film Festival shows Brooklyn reaching down to rearrange the train of Nicola’s white Alberta Ferretti gown before stepping aside. Nicola then turns toward him with an expression some viewers interpreted as irritation, prompting Page Six to describe the moment as an “icy” exchange.
The rest of the Sept. 8 appearance complicates that interpretation considerably. Photographers captured the couple kissing, embracing and posing closely together before Brooklyn stepped away to give Nicola space in front of the cameras.
The brief moment nevertheless spread quickly online, with viewers assigning everything from annoyance to larger marital tension to a facial expression neither Brooklyn nor Nicola has publicly explained.
The Viral Moment Started With Brooklyn Fixing Her Dress

Nicola’s floor-length Alberta Ferretti gown featured a sweeping train that required some management on the carpet. In the circulating clip, Brooklyn bends down, moves part of the fabric behind her and then walks out of the shot.
Nicola looks toward him as he moves away. That glance became the basis for the online debate, with one widely shared post saying she appeared “a little irritated.” Other commenters went further and treated the expression as evidence of trouble between the couple.
The Rest of the Red Carpet Looked Very Different

The same event produced photographs that hardly resemble a couple in the middle of an icy standoff. Vogue’s coverage focused on that broader sequence, describing Brooklyn and Nicola as back in their “loved-up rhythm” after a quieter stretch of public appearances.
The publication also highlighted Nicola’s white Alberta Ferretti look as another bridal-inspired moment for the couple. The gown came from the fashion house’s Resort 2027 collection, which designer Lorenzo Serafini built around fluid, romantic dresses and bias-cut silhouettes.
Nicola Was in Deauville to Honor Faye Dunaway
The couple’s trip to France also had a professional purpose beyond another celebrity red carpet. The Deauville American Film Festival’s official recap confirms that Nicola presented Faye Dunaway with the Deauville Icon Award during the festival’s Sept. 8 program. The actresses also posed together earlier at Hôtel Barrière Le Royal Deauville before appearing on the red carpet.
Nicola and Dunaway co-star in the upcoming film Prima. Nicola plays a ballet dancer, while Dunaway portrays her grandmother and mentor. Brooklyn accompanied Nicola during the Deauville appearances, and the festival itself included the couple among the notable guests who took part in the red carpet, ceremony and events surrounding Dunaway’s honor.
The French stop followed Nicola’s appearance in Venice, where she received a Kinéo Rising Star Award connected to her work in Prima. During her acceptance remarks, Nicola thanked her family and specifically included Brooklyn among the people whose support allowed her to pursue her career.
Days Earlier, Brooklyn and Nicola Were Kissing in Venice
Deauville came during a particularly visible stretch for Brooklyn and Nicola after months of scrutiny surrounding Brooklyn’s estrangement from members of the Beckham family.
Only days earlier in Venice, photographers captured Brooklyn kissing Nicola while she wore a dramatic violet Balenciaga gown. Coverage of the appearance also showed him holding her hand and remaining close as she attended events connected to the Kinéo Awards.
Brooklyn and Nicola married in April 2022 and renewed their vows on Aug. 2, 2025. Neither has publicly suggested that the Deauville red carpet exchange reflected a problem in their marriage.
