Chappell Roan was midway through her Los Angeles concert when she stopped to introduce a surprise guest. Christina Aguilera walked onto the Shrine Auditorium stage on October 21 and embraced the younger singer.
Aguilera, 45, performed “Beautiful” before joining Roan for “Coffee.”
The appearance took place during the first night of “The Super Graphic Spectacular,” a two-day benefit organized by Roan’s Midwest Princess Project. Aguilera had not been advertised among the scheduled performers.
PEOPLE covered the collaboration on October 22, citing Billboard’s concert reporting and footage recorded by audience members.

Roan introduced Aguilera after finishing “The Giver,” crediting her with helping women in pop choose what to sing, wear and express. She called her guest a legend.
Aguilera told the audience she had been watching and listening backstage. She described the evening as magical before turning her attention to the singer who had invited her. “From the moment I heard Chappell’s voice, I knew she was a force to be reckoned with,” she said.
Before beginning her solo number, Aguilera spoke about feelings of insecurity and loneliness that listeners can recognize at different points in their lives. Roan watched from the piano bench as Aguilera sang, according to The Guardian’s review.
Released on Aguilera’s 2002 album “Stripped,” “Beautiful” has a history closely connected to the benefit’s audience. Its video depicted same-sex affection and gender expression. Aguilera received a Special Recognition award at the 2003 GLAAD Media Awards for the video, as the Recording Academy documented in its anniversary feature.
Roan and Aguilera Restart “Coffee” After a Missed Lyric
Aguilera described “Coffee” as one of her favorite Roan songs before they began. The restrained track appears on “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess,” released in 2023, and concerns the difficulty of keeping boundaries with a former partner.
Roan stumbled over the opening line, prompting laughter from Aguilera. The pair restarted, according to JamBase, then continued the performance together.
The singers had appeared together earlier in the month, posing for photographs at MISTR’s National PrEP Day event at The Abbey in West Hollywood on October 10.
Roan’s set also included Olivia Rodrigo’s “Expectations,” following the release of their remix the previous week. She closed the evening with “Pink Pony Club.”

The opening evening also featured Lola Young, Tinashe, Amanda Lepore, Blaine Petrovia and Kyra Jeté. Comedian Caleb Hearon hosted the event.
Roan was scheduled to headline again on October 22, with Caroline Polachek, MUNA, Alisa Mae, Fantasia Royale Gaga and Sweaty Eddie on the second night’s bill.
Outside the ticketed concerts, the Super Graphic Block Party offered drag performances, DJs, local vendors, a costume contest and opportunities to meet community organizations.
The Benefit Builds on a Year of LGBTQ+ Grants
The Midwest Princess Project, founded in 2025, supports transgender youth and LGBTQ+ communities. The concerts marked its first anniversary, with all net proceeds designated for the next stage of its work, according to Roan’s official event announcement.
Before the concerts, organizers said the initiative had raised more than $800,000 and supported more than 60 organizations during its first year. It operates as a sponsored project of the Catalyst Philanthropy Fund, a 501(c)(3) public charity.
The project’s impact report names its 2026 grant recipients, including the Ali Forney Center, GLO Center, the Center Project, Trans Wellness Center and TransLatin@ Coalition. It also lists continuing support for Backline, which provides mental health resources for people working in music.
