Dak Prescott is speaking publicly about the end of his engagement to Sarah Jane Ramos, calling the breakup an “unfortunate situation” while pushing back on what he described as “false narratives” surrounding both sides.
The Dallas Cowboys quarterback emphasized the effect the split has had on their family and said his biggest concern remains the two young daughters he shares with Ramos.
Prescott and Ramos ended their engagement in March after more than two years together.
The former couple also worked out an informal temporary custody agreement for their daughters in April.
Prescott Pushes Back on ‘False Narratives’ About the Split
Prescott addressed the breakup during Cowboys training camp in Oxnard, California. In comments covered by TMZ, he acknowledged the intense public attention surrounding the end of his engagement.
“There were a lot of false narratives out there on both of our sides,” Prescott said, according to the Dallas Morning News. Prescott did not elaborate on which stories he was disputing.
He also suggested that he deliberately avoids consuming too much coverage of his personal life, saying that continually reading or searching for speculation only gives it more power. The quarterback described the breakup itself as an “unfortunate situation,” particularly because children are involved.
His Daughters Remain His Main Priority

During his Dallas Morning News interview, Prescott made clear that his focus is on his daughters and making sure he remains available to them “in every which way.”
Prescott and Ramos share daughters Margaret Jane Rose, known as MJ, and Aurora Rayne. The girls were recently seen supporting their father at Cowboys training camp in Oxnard as he prepared for his 11th NFL season.
The family focus is consistent with what both sides have said since the engagement ended. Representatives for Ramos previously said she and Prescott remained committed to raising their daughters together despite the breakup.
The Wedding Was Called Off Five Weeks Before the Ceremony
Prescott and Ramos ended their engagement in March after more than two years together. They had been preparing to marry in Italy approximately five weeks later.
A representative for Ramos told People at the time that the decision was mutual and that there had not been a major argument or blowup leading to the split. The representative said both Prescott and Ramos were heartbroken that the wedding would not take place.
One rumor that circulated after the breakup involved claims that a disagreement over a prenuptial agreement caused the split. Ramos directly rejected that speculation in March, writing that the breakup “had nothing to do with a prenup,” according to People.
Prescott and Ramos Reached a Temporary Custody Agreement
According to People, Prescott had filed a Suit Affecting the Parent-Child Relationship in March. The parents later reached a temporary settlement on April 15, one day before a scheduled court appearance that was subsequently canceled.
Prescott’s attorney said the arrangement was reached amicably outside the courtroom and kept the well-being of the children at the center of the discussions.
Ramos’ attorney said the agreement addressed temporary visitation and financial terms and had been signed by the court, although it would not be formally filed unless enforcement became necessary. He emphasized that the arrangement was not a final resolution, saying, “This is temporary relief and not final.”
