Dolly Parton gave fans an unexpected public appearance in Tennessee after a year marked by health-related schedule changes.
The 80-year-old country icon appeared Wednesday, June 24, at the grand opening of Dolly’s Tennessean Travel Stop in Cornersville, Tennessee. The stop opened off I-65, about an hour south of Nashville, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, live events, food, coffee, and Dolly-themed details built around her long connection to Tennessee and life on the road.
Entertainment Weekly reported that Parton’s appearance came after recent health issues that led her to cancel her planned Las Vegas residency. The visit was not expected by fans who had seen earlier grand-opening materials say she would not attend the public events.
Parton kept the ribbon-cutting light, smiling through the ceremony and joking about why she wanted to enter the truck-stop business. Referencing Buc-ee’s and its beaver mascot, she told the crowd, “I couldn’t leave it to beavers.”

Parton arrived in a bright Western-inspired look and cut the ribbon with bedazzled pink scissors. People reported that she appeared at the opening ceremony around 2 p.m. local time and addressed the crowd before the travel stop officially welcomed visitors.
The new business is not just a celebrity-branded gas station. Dolly’s Tennessean Travel Stop includes fuel pumps, EV charging, a general store, a full-service Southern-style restaurant, DLY BBQ, a trucker lounge with showers and laundry, a dog park, an event space, and Dolly’s Cup of Ambition coffee brand. The official site lists the Cornersville location at Exit 22 off I-65 and says it is open 24/7.
People also reported that the stop features Dolly-themed design touches, including a glittery guitar chandelier, a mural by Southern artist Britt Flood, and merchandise tied to Parton’s life and career. Gregory H. Sachs, a partner in the project, said in a press release shared with the outlet that Parton’s years on the road helped shape the idea for a stop built around Tennessee hospitality.
The Appearance Followed Her Las Vegas Cancellation

Parton’s surprise appearance came less than two months after she canceled Dolly: Live in Las Vegas, the residency that had been scheduled for Sept. 17-26, 2026. Reuters reported in May that Parton said issues with her immune and digestive systems had affected her ability to perform.
In that update, Parton said she was “improving every day,” but still needed more time before returning to the physical demands of a stage show. She also said medication and treatment side effects made her feel “swimmy-headed,” joking that dizziness would not mix with banjos, guitars, rhinestone outfits, big hair, and high heels.
The Vegas residency had already been postponed once in 2025 while Parton dealt with health issues. Reuters noted that she later reassured fans she was not seriously ill after her sister asked for prayers, and Parton said at the time that she needed treatment for kidney stones.
The Surprise Turned a Business Opening Into a Fan Moment
The travel stop’s grand-opening week had already been planned as a public event, with food samples, coffee tastings, live music, giveaways, and a July 3 finale. The official schedule listed opening-day festivities from 2:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., followed by several days of entertainment and family events.
Local and national coverage focused on the surprise as much as the business itself, especially because she has stepped back from major live performances while recovering.
