Frances Bean Cobain returned to the red carpet Tuesday night for a movie she helped bring to the screen.
The 34-year-old attended a Los Angeles screening of The Deputy on Sept. 22, marking what People described as her first red carpet appearance since 2018. Cobain posed alone and alongside director Matt Sukkar at the event.
She wore a brown leather jacket over a ripped black graphic T-shirt, black shorts with a lace hem and white pointed boots. Her appearance came after years away from traditional Hollywood carpets.
Cobain is an executive producer on The Deputy, a crime thriller starring Duke Nicholson, William H. Macy, Tiffany Haddish, Stephen Dorff, Billie Lourd and Julia Fox.
‘The Deputy’ Gives Duke Nicholson His First Leading Movie Role
Nicholson plays rookie officer Toby Sawyer, who is assigned to guard a corpse only for the body to disappear. His attempt to find it exposes corruption inside the small town, while Haddish plays Deputy Amanda Jackson, one of the few people willing to help him.
The official trailer from Well Go USA shows Toby searching for answers as people around him increasingly pressure him to stop investigating.
The film marks the first leading movie role for Nicholson, the grandson of Jack Nicholson. He previously appeared in projects including Jordan Peele’s Us and Licorice Pizza.
Sukkar is also making his feature directorial debut with the film.
Cobain Had Not Walked a Red Carpet Since 2018
Cobain attended several red carpet events in 2018, including the Moschino x H&M runway show in New York and the Fashion Los Angeles Awards in Beverly Hills.
Her last known public fashion appearance before this week’s screening came in June 2019, when she sat in the front row at Moschino’s Spring/Summer menswear and resort show at Universal Studios Hollywood. She did not walk a traditional red carpet at that event.
Cobain has maintained a comparatively low public profile in the years since, appearing selectively at events while continuing her work as a visual artist.
Her Red Carpet Return Came Days After Her Son Turned 2

Cobain married professional skateboarder Riley Hawk in October 2023. The couple welcomed their son, Ronin Walker Cobain Hawk, on Sept. 17, 2024, announcing his arrival with black-and-white photographs on Instagram, as People reported at the time.
Ronin celebrated his second birthday on Sept. 17, five days before the Deputy screening. Cobain marked the occasion with photographs of her son and wrote about the life she and Hawk have built with him.
Cobain is the only child of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love, while Hawk is the son of skateboarding legend Tony Hawk.
The Deputy opens in theaters and arrives on digital and on demand Sept. 25.
