Josh Duhamel is marking a new stage of parenthood with a rare look at his oldest son, Axl, as the teenager celebrates his 13th birthday.
The Ransom Canyon star shared photographs from a birthday outing at Universal Studios Hollywood, where Axl was joined by friends, Duhamel’s wife Audra Mari and their younger son Shepherd. PEOPLE reported that Duhamel posted the images on Facebook on Aug. 28, one day before Axl’s Aug. 29 birthday.
Axl, whom Duhamel shares with ex-wife Fergie, appeared in a black T-shirt reading “The Three A’s” while spending time with his friends around the park. One family photograph shows Duhamel holding 2-year-old Shepherd alongside Mari and Axl.
“Had an incredible day at Universal Studios Hollywood yesterday celebrating my son Axl’s 13th BIRTHDAY!!!” Duhamel wrote with the photos. “Thank you to the whole team that made it a day we won’t forget!”
Axl Joined His Dad’s Growing Family for the Birthday Outing
The new pictures offer an uncommon look at how much Duhamel’s family has expanded since Axl was his only child. Mari appears with her stepson in the group photos, while Duhamel carries Shepherd in several images.
Just Jared noted that Axl was joined by friends during the celebration. Other photographs show the group taking in attractions and playing games around the park.
Duhamel and Mari also have a daughter, Rocca de Leon, whom they welcomed in May. She was not among the family members shown in the Universal Studios photographs highlighted by PEOPLE and Just Jared.
Duhamel Was Already Adjusting to Having an Almost-Teenager
Axl’s milestone comes a year after Duhamel was already joking about how quickly his oldest son’s life was changing. In an August 2025 interview with PEOPLE, he said Axl had returned from camp interested in a girl and wanted to see her again.
Duhamel was amused but made clear that the first outing would be supervised. At the time, he joked about navigating potential first dates while simultaneously raising Shepherd, who was then 18 months old.
Driving was also on his mind. Duhamel said he expected to become “an anxious mess” once Axl was old enough to drive and had already started introducing him to the responsibility by talking him through what a driver needs to watch for on the road.
Fergie Has Shared Her Own Rare Birthday Photos of Axl

Axl has generally appeared only occasionally on his famous parents’ public accounts. Fergie made an exception for his 12th birthday on Aug. 29, 2025, sharing photographs from different stages of his childhood and more recent moments in his life.
“Axl Jack, the preteen,” she began her birthday message. Fergie wrote that she was proud of the independence and kindness she was seeing in her son and said that discovering his interests and watching him grow brought her joy.
Duhamel marked the same birthday with a Legoland outing for Axl and some friends. He thanked his son for what he called “the best 12 years of my life” and told him he loved him.
Duhamel Says Fergie and Mari Have a Good Relationship
Duhamel and Fergie married in 2009, welcomed Axl in 2013 and announced their separation in 2017. Their divorce was finalized in 2019, and both have continued speaking positively about their approach to raising their son.
Duhamel married Mari in September 2022. They welcomed Shepherd in January 2024 and announced the arrival of Rocca de Leon in May 2026, making Axl the oldest of Duhamel’s three children.
Earlier this year, Duhamel said Fergie was a “great mom” and described their relationship as good. He also said Fergie and Mari get along, explaining that avoiding conflict within the family is particularly important to him.
