Katy Perry spent one of the most difficult stretches of her last world tour crying thousands of miles from home as her relationship with Orlando Bloom came to an end. A little more than a year later, she is describing Justin Trudeau as “the love of my life.”
Perry, 41, spoke candidly about both relationships while looking back on the Lifetimes Tour for its new concert film. In a new interview with PEOPLE, she described the tour as a period that carried her through professional criticism, a painful breakup and an unexpected new relationship.
Perry and Bloom had been together on and off for nine years, became engaged in 2019 and share daughter Daisy. Perry said she does not dismiss that history now that their romantic relationship is over, instead viewing relationships as teachers that can still have meaning even when they end.
Trudeau entered the picture during the same tour. Perry met the former Canadian prime minister around her Montreal stop in July 2025, and what initially generated romance speculation has since become a relationship she now describes in unusually definitive terms.
Perry Says the Bloom Split Was ‘Probably the Hardest Time’
Perry was in Australia when news of the breakup was circulating publicly. She recalled being far from friends at home and crying while continuing to perform, calling that period “probably the hardest time.” She said the people around her ultimately rallied to support her as she worked through it.
Representatives for Perry and Bloom confirmed their split on July 3, 2025, saying the former couple had been shifting their relationship toward co-parenting for months. Their statement emphasized that their shared priority remained raising Daisy with love, stability and mutual respect.
Perry said she would not have stayed for nine years if there had not been important lessons to learn, but eventually reached the point where she had to let the relationship go in order to move forward.
Meeting Justin Trudeau Changed the Rest of Her Tour

By the end of July 2025, Perry and Trudeau had been spotted together at dinner in Montreal. Two days later, Trudeau attended her concert in the city with his daughter. Perry summed up what followed simply, after meeting Trudeau on tour, “things shifted.”
The relationship became increasingly public over the following months. Perry and Trudeau stepped out together around her birthday in Paris in October 2025 before making their red-carpet debut at the Tribeca Festival premiere of her concert film in June 2026. Trudeau has also become a frequent presence at her performances.
Perry told PEOPLE that he attended 10 of her 20 recent shows. She described him as supportive, said he knows the words to her songs and suggested that their connection is rooted in similar values.
She Wanted an ‘Epic Legendary Love’
Perry’s description of Trudeau goes beyond saying she is happy in a new relationship. She told PEOPLE that she had talked with her therapist about wanting an “epic legendary love,” feeling that romance was the missing piece in a life she otherwise regarded as extraordinary.
She also showed the interviewer a handwritten manifestation list she keeps inside her phone case. Perry said she wrote the list in August 2025, and its tenth and final item reads “True Love.”
Perry said the greatest gift she received from the tour was meeting “the love of my life,” and she now believes the “True Love” item on her list reflects where their relationship has taken her.
The Tour That Spanned the Breakup Is Now in Theaters

Perry is revisiting that period because the tour has become Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour – Live From Paris. Directed by Paul Dugdale and filmed during two November 2025 performances at Paris’ Accor Arena, the concert film opened in theaters and IMAX on September 2 for a limited run.
The Lifetimes Tour stretched across 91 shows and five continents, marking Perry’s first world tour in seven years. What audiences saw onstage unfolded alongside a turbulent personal and professional period that included criticism of her album 143, the end of her engagement to Bloom and the beginning of her relationship with Trudeau.
With the tour behind her, Perry does not appear eager to immediately manufacture the next chapter simply to have new material. For now, she said she is “living my life” so she can eventually write about it.
