Carys Douglas is officially stepping further into the performing-arts world after completing her professional New York theater debut.
The 23-year-old daughter of Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones shared photos from Solid Flesh’s Brooklyn production of The Seagull, the Anton Chekhov play that ran in June at St. Lydia’s in Gowanus.
“The Seagull 🪿🤍 what a lovely time this was,” Carys wrote on Instagram on Wednesday, July 1, tagging Solid Flesh Company and Connor Wrubel.
PEOPLE previously reported that Carys would make her professional theater debut in the production. The role gave her a named stage credit in a classic text after years of appearing publicly alongside her Oscar-winning parents.

BroadwayWorld reported that Solid Flesh staged the production from June 20 through June 27 at St. Lydia’s, located at 304 Bond Street in Brooklyn. Performances began at 8 p.m.
The company presented The Seagull as a mobile, site-specific production. The first half took place outdoors before the audience moved inside St. Lydia’s for the second half.
She Played Nina in the Chekhov Production

Carys played Nina, the aspiring actress at the center of Chekhov’s drama. BroadwayWorld listed the cast with Carys as Nina, Sarah Yannie as Irina, Kieran Gettel-Gilmartin as Konstantin and Noah Keyishian as Trigorin.
The production was directed by Tabitha Davidson and adapted by Gettel-Gilmartin. Solid Flesh described the staging as a contemporary take on Chekhov’s story of art, fame and unrequited love.
The role put Carys in a part with a long stage history attached to it. Nina is one of Chekhov’s most recognizable young characters, and the Brooklyn production gave Carys a public professional debut that was tied to theater rather than a screen cameo or celebrity-family event.
The Stage Role Followed Her Brown University Graduation
The production came after another major milestone for Carys. She graduated from Brown University in May 2025 with a degree in Film and International Relations, according to PEOPLE.
Zeta-Jones celebrated the graduation on Instagram with a photo of herself and Michael kissing Carys on both cheeks. “We are both such proud parents right now!! It’s only just begun!!” she wrote.
Michael also marked the moment publicly, sharing a behind-the-scenes video from the graduation celebration and congratulating the Brown University class of 2025.
Carys Had Already Said She Wanted More Theater
Carys had spoken about performing before The Seagull was announced. At the 2025 PAC NYC Icons of Culture Gala, she told PEOPLE that she grew up doing theater, even though she did not formally study acting in college.
“I grew up doing theater, and I didn’t study acting in school, but that’s why I’m happy to be in such an informative arts space, so hopefully more of that,” she said.
Carys has also done screen work. The 2024 short film F*ck That Guy starred Carys opposite Victoria Pedretti, with Micheál Neeson, Dagmara Domińczyk and Sydney Lemmon also in the cast. The 17-minute film was written and directed by Hanna Gray Organschi and later had a virtual premiere with Carys and Pedretti attached to a live Q&A.
Her Family Name Brings Attention, But the Credit Is Specific
Carys is entering the acting world with two major Hollywood names behind her. Michael Douglas won Oscars for producing One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and starring in Wall Street, while Zeta-Jones won an Academy Award for Chicago. Carys had publicly said she hoped to continue in the performing arts.
Michael and Zeta-Jones also share son Dylan, while Michael is also father to Cameron Douglas from a previous marriage.
