Mika Abdalla and Jake Short have ended their engagement after five years together.
The Off Campus actress and the former Disney Channel star are no longer together, Abdalla’s representative confirmed to Us Weekly. The rep said the two still “support each other” and remain on friendly terms.
The split arrives during a sharp rise in Abdalla’s public profile. She plays Allie Hayes on Prime Video’s Off Campus, and the show’s second season is now officially moving Allie and Dean Di Laurentis, played by Stephen Kalyn, into the central romance.

The Split Was Confirmed as Amicable
Abdalla’s representative kept the statement brief and respectful.
The rep told Us Weekly that Abdalla and Short are “no longer together” after recent interest in the actress’ personal life. The spokesperson also said the former couple remains friendly and asked for privacy.
Just Jared also reported the breakup, noting that Abdalla, 26, and Short, 29, had been together for five years before going their separate ways.
No reason for the split was given. Abdalla and Short have not released separate public statements, and the representative’s comment did not suggest conflict or a messy breakup.

Their Relationship Started on Sex Appeal
Abdalla and Short met while working on the Hulu teen comedy Sex Appeal.
The movie filmed in 2021 and was released in 2022, with Abdalla and Short playing onscreen love interests. People reported that their connection carried into real life after they met during production in Syracuse, New York.
Short was already familiar to Disney Channel viewers before the relationship drew attention. He played Fletcher Quimby on A.N.T. Farm, and People also noted his credits on Mighty Med, Lab Rats: Elite Force, Lessons in Chemistry, High Potential, and 9-1-1.
The engagement became public through Short’s manager, Brian Medavoy, who shared photos from an engagement celebration in May 2025. In the caption, Medavoy referred to Abdalla as Short’s fiancée and described their relationship as going “from set to real life.”
Off Campus Gives the Split More Attention
The breakup confirmation comes shortly after Off Campus gave Abdalla one of the biggest roles of her career.
The Prime Video romance series is based on Elle Kennedy’s bestselling books and follows students at Briar University, where hockey, friendship, and complicated relationships drive the story. Abdalla plays Allie Hayes, whose romance with Dean becomes more important as the show moves forward.
Entertainment Weekly reported that season 2 will officially focus on Allie and Dean after season 1 centered on Hannah Wells and Garrett Graham, played by Ella Bright and Belmont Cameli.
Creator Louisa Levy said the new season will continue Allie and Dean’s story as the show’s primary romance, while Hannah and Garrett remain part of the ensemble.
That timing is why the personal update is drawing more attention now than it might have a year ago. Abdalla is not only coming out of a long relationship; she is doing it as Off Campus moves her character closer to the center of the series.
The confirmed story remains limited: Abdalla and Short have ended their engagement, the split has been described as amicable, and Off Campus season 2 will put Abdalla’s Allie Hayes at the front of the show’s next major romance.
