Nina Dobrev was still posing for photographers at the Venice Film Festival when a security staffer decided her time in front of the cameras was up.
Video from the Sept. 2 opening-night premiere of Ink shows the 37-year-old actress standing alone for photographs before the man approaches and gestures for her to continue toward the end of the carpet. Dobrev looks back at him, appears briefly confused and then follows the direction.
The exchange quickly circulated online, where viewers debated whether Dobrev had somehow overstayed her turn. One reaction quoted in coverage of the viral clip said its writer “would’ve evaporated from embarrassment.”
Despite some headlines suggesting Dobrev was “kicked off” the red carpet, the available footage does not show her being expelled from the festival or denied entry.
The Guard Stepped In While Dobrev Was Still Posing

Dobrev had turned toward another section of photographers when the staffer entered the shot and gestured for her to continue. She glanced over her shoulder, paused and then complied rather than arguing or attempting to remain in place.
Neither Dobrev nor the Venice Film Festival has publicly explained the exchange. The interruption itself lasted only seconds. By that point, however, photographers had already captured Dobrev from numerous angles, including images of her spreading the dramatic green chiffon panels attached to her gown across the carpet.
Dobrev Wore an Archival Armani Privé Gown
Dobrev attended the premiere in an archival Giorgio Armani Privé gown from 2012. The strapless design paired a black sequined column silhouette with sweeping mossy-green chiffon panels that extended from the hips into a flowing train.
The gown quickly became part of the festival’s fashion coverage. Vogue included Dobrev among its notable Venice looks, while other fashion outlets identified the design as archival Armani Privé.
The dress also received considerably more camera time than the viral security clip alone might suggest. Additional photographs and footage shared by Deadline captured Dobrev posing across the carpet before continuing toward the premiere.
Dobrev Attended the Opening-Night Premiere of ‘Ink’
Dobrev was among the guests at the world premiere of Ink, Danny Boyle’s opening film for the 83rd Venice International Film Festival. The premiere took place at the Sala Grande after the festival’s opening ceremony on Sept. 2.
The festival’s official listing identifies Jack O’Connell, Guy Pearce and Claire Foy as the film’s principal cast, with James Graham adapting his own play for the screen. The story centers on Rupert Murdoch’s 1969 acquisition of British newspaper The Sun and the transformation that followed.
The 83rd Venice International Film Festival runs from Sept. 2 through Sept. 12, with Ink competing in the main Venezia 83 competition for the Golden Lion.
