Pat Monahan came away from Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding thinking about a love story much closer to home. The Train frontman says watching the newlyweds during their July 3 ceremony reminded him of the connection he felt when he married his wife, Amber.

In a new interview with The Kansas City Star, Monahan described his marriage as the “magic of my life” and said he could tell Swift and Kelce shared those same feelings during their ceremony. As PEOPLE reported, he considered that emotional connection the best part of the celebration.

It was not the first time Monahan had spoken warmly about the wedding. In a late-July interview with E! News, he said he was “blown away” by how incredible and beautiful the event was and expressed his happiness that Swift and Kelce had found each other.

Monahan attended the Madison Square Garden wedding with Amber, just weeks before the couple celebrated their own 19th wedding anniversary. His invitation also reflected a longstanding musical connection with Swift, even though he acknowledged that the two had not spoken in some time before the wedding.

“When I met my wife and we got married, I knew that that was the magic of my life,” Monahan told The Kansas City Star. “You could tell during that ceremony that they had those same feelings for each other, and that was the best part of the whole thing,” he added.

His earlier comments to E! News carried a similar tone. Monahan said he was “blown away” by the wedding and described it as both incredible and beautiful. “So glad that she and Travis found each other,” he said.

The Invitation Reconnected a Longstanding Musical Friendship

Monahan admitted that receiving an invitation surprised him because he and Swift had not been in regular contact. He nevertheless described their friendship as the kind that does not depend on constantly speaking to one another. “It’s one of those friendships that you don’t need to be around each other all the time to remember that you have, you know, a meaningful connection,” he told The Kansas City Star.

Their creative history stretches back more than a decade. Swift and Monahan co-wrote “Babe” during her Red era. The song did not make the original album and was eventually released by Sugarland, featuring Swift, in 2018. Swift later recorded her own version for Red (Taylor’s Version) in 2021.

Monahan also joined Swift onstage during her Red Tour in 2013, years before their songwriting collaboration was commercially released.

The day after Swift and Kelce married, Amber shared photographs and video from the celebration and described the night with one word: “Magical.” Monahan wore a classic black suit for the black-tie event, while Amber chose a strapless pink floral-print gown with a corset-style bodice and tiered ruffle skirt.

Swift and Kelce married at Madison Square Garden in New York City on July 3. Weeks later, Pat and Amber marked their 19th wedding anniversary by sharing another video in their Swift-Kelce wedding outfits, this time set to The Dixie Cups’ “Chapel of Love.”
