Princess Eugenie welcomed her first daughter in Portugal, breaking from the London birth tradition she followed with her two older children.

The 36-year-old royal and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, became parents of three when their baby girl was born at a hospital in Lisbon on August 3rd at 6:20 p.m. She weighed 6 pounds, 9 ounces.

Eugenie previously gave birth to sons August and Ernest at the Portland Hospital in London. The family has divided its time between the United Kingdom and Portugal since Brooksbank accepted a new job in 2022.

The couple has not yet revealed their daughter’s name. She joins 5-year-old August Philip Hawke and 3-year-old Ernest George Ronnie and is now 15th in the line of succession to the British throne.

Buckingham Palace announced the birth on August 4th, confirming that the baby had arrived safely at a Lisbon hospital the previous evening. The statement said King Charles, Queen Camilla and other members of the Royal Family were delighted by the news.

Eugenie shared a photograph taken by Brooksbank showing their newborn wearing a pink onesie with small wings on the back and a patterned hat. “Jack and I are so excited to announce Baby Girl Brooksbank!!” Eugenie wrote. “We are beyond in love with our girlie.”

Her daughter follows Eugenie and her two sons in the line of succession. Being born outside the United Kingdom does not affect her position.

Jack Brooksbank’s Work Took the Family to Portugal

Eugenie and Brooksbank began dividing their time between Britain and Portugal in 2022 after he accepted a job connected to property developer Mike Meldman. Brooksbank works with the Discovery Land Company on the CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club development near Comporta, south of Lisbon.

Meldman previously co-founded Casamigos with George Clooney and Rande Gerber. Brooksbank worked as a brand ambassador for the tequila company before moving into the property business.

The job led Eugenie, Brooksbank and August to begin spending part of each year in Portugal. Ernest was born in London in May 2023, but the family continued maintaining homes in both countries.

Eugenie Called Their Quieter Life ‘The Dream’

Eugenie explained why she enjoys living in Portugal during a 2023 appearance on Jessie and Lennie Ware’s Table Manners podcast. “This is why Portugal is the dream because I can go to the supermarket in my exercise gear and my hair piled on my head and not mind. Not care. No one cares,” she said, according to PEOPLE.

She contrasted that freedom with the public scrutiny she experienced while growing up in Britain. Eugenie said criticism of her clothes and appearance began when she was a teenager and affected her relationship with food and her body.

Buckingham Palace confirmed Eugenie’s third pregnancy in May, saying August and Ernest were excited to welcome another sibling. Eugenie announced the news on Instagram with a photograph taken from above as her sons examined an ultrasound image together. “Baby Brooksbank due 2026!” she wrote alongside red heart emojis.

Both boys’ names contain family tributes. August’s middle name Philip honors Eugenie’s late grandfather, Prince Philip, while Ernest’s full name recognizes relatives from both sides of the family.
