Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’ relationship started with a direct message, a little caution and one very specific photo request.

People reported that Chopra recalled the early exchange during a July 14 appearance on the Jonas Brothers’ Hey Jonas podcast.

Entertainment Weekly also covered the story, noting that Jonas wanted to make sure he was really texting Chopra before the conversation moved further.

Chopra said Jonas asked her for a photo looking at the camera with a timestamp. He wanted proof that the person texting him was actually her.

The request caught Chopra off guard, but she also found it understandable. She joked that it already made the situation feel suspicious, but admitted she appreciated the extra caution.

Jonas remembered the photo slightly differently and thought it may have involved peanut butter. Chopra quickly corrected him, saying the picture was taken after a fashion show and that she looked good that day.

Their First Contact Started With a DM

The story began when Jonas noticed Chopra on a billboard for Quantico and later reached out with a direct message. On the podcast, Joe Jonas read Nick’s first message, in which he said he had heard from people that he and Chopra should meet.

Chopra’s response moved the conversation away from the account because her team could access it. That is how the pair ended up texting privately before they ever became a couple.

That first message also showed the cautious rhythm of the early connection. Jonas made a direct but respectful opening, while Chopra quickly moved the exchange somewhere more private.

Jonas said they did not start dating until about a year and a half after those first messages. Once the relationship began, though, it moved quickly. People reported that the couple got engaged less than three months after they started dating.

Chopra and Jonas married in December 2018 and welcomed their daughter, Malti Marie, in January 2022.
