Big Brother brought Rachel Reilly back for another surprise return, then sent her out through one of the strangest twists the CBS reality series has aired.

Just Jared reported that Reilly returned during the Big Brother Season 28 premiere on Thursday, July 9.

The 41-year-old reality star entered the house with her usual confidence, telling viewers she was back and ready to chase a “double crown.”

Reilly is one of the franchise’s most recognizable players, having competed on Season 12, won Season 13 and returned again in Season 27 as a mystery houseguest.

Reilly’s entrance surprised the new houseguests and gave the premiere an instant veteran-player jolt. Just Jared reported that fellow returning player Angela Murray said in a confessional that she did not expect Reilly and worried Reilly could build an army against her.

Her return also came after CBS had teased that additional surprise houseguests would be revealed on air. The Season 28 premiere was built around a time-travel format that quickly pushed the episode away from normal game mechanics.

The Premiere Sent Houseguests Through Time

Entertainment Weekly reported that the premiere introduced 14 new houseguests before Julie Chen Moonves revealed that not everyone competing this summer had moved in yet.

Former Big Brother player Enzo Palumbo appeared as the fictional CEO of Meow Meow Enterprises, sending houseguests on missions to bring reality-TV figures into the 2026 game.

Those missions brought Angela Murray from 1988, Survivor alum Rick Devens from a Fiji-set sequence and Reilly from Las Vegas in 2010.

Entertainment Weekly reported that the entire cast was transported to 175 million B.C., where Reilly was attacked by a velociraptor and pushed toward a volcano.

Julie Chen Moonves then told the houseguests that Reilly had fallen into the volcano and met her “untimely demise.” The moment was part of the episode’s fictional time-travel storyline, not a real-world event and not a traditional Big Brother eviction.

Entertainment Weekly reported that Chen Moonves time-traveled to Dec. 20, 2023, to search for Reilly’s replacement, a date tied to the Survivor 45 finale won by Dee Valladares.
