Romeo Beckham has been fined after police said he was caught using his phone behind the wheel of a Porsche while a dog was loose inside the car.

The 23-year-old model and son of David and Victoria Beckham was stopped in Westminster on Sept. 16, 2025, after an officer saw him at a red light on Victoria Street. Court papers said Beckham had his head down and was looking at a phone held low near the steering wheel.

The stop involved more than the phone. A woman was in the passenger seat looking at another phone, and an “unrestrained” dog was on her lap, according to court details published by The Standard.

Beckham was later convicted at Westminster Magistrates’ Court of being a driver not in a position to have proper control. He received a £440 fine, three penalty points, £130 in costs and a £176 victim surcharge.

The officer said Beckham was stopped shortly before 11:20 a.m. while driving a Porsche 911 Carrera. ITV News said court papers described him as distracted at the red light, with both he and the passenger looking at phones before police intervened.

The officer said he advised Beckham about the animal, describing it as an insecure load, before taking action over the phone-related driving issue.

Reports said police had first offered Beckham the chance to pay a fine and attend a driver awareness course. He did not respond, so the case moved through the single justice procedure.

The Loose Dog Added a Second Safety Issue

The U.K. Highway Code says dogs and other animals should be suitably restrained in vehicles so they cannot distract the driver or be injured if the car stops suddenly. It lists a seat belt harness, pet carrier, dog cage or dog guard as ways to restrain animals in cars.

In this case the dog was not in the back of the vehicle or secured in a carrier, according to the court account. It was on the passenger’s lap while Beckham was stopped for the separate phone issue.

The Case Echoes David Beckham’s Past Driving Ban

The fine drew extra attention because Romeo’s father, David Beckham, was banned from driving for six months in 2019 after admitting he used his phone while driving in slow-moving traffic in London.

The Guardian reported at the time that David was given six points, fined £750 and ordered to pay prosecution costs and a surcharge after being photographed using his phone while driving his Bentley.
