Cardholders Should Treat Unknown Purchases as Account Access Warnings
Anyone who sees purchases they did not make should contact the card issuer immediately, dispute the charges, and ask whether the card should be locked, replaced, or removed from digital wallets and stored merchant accounts.
The Federal Trade Commission says lost or stolen credit, ATM, and debit cards should be reported quickly to limit possible losses. If personal information was used to open or access accounts, recovery steps are available through IdentityTheft.gov.
Suspected bank fraud or access-device fraud should also be reported to local law enforcement and the financial institution’s fraud department.
