Adam Scott Says Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s 1,000-Guest Wedding Felt Surprisingly ‘Regular’: ‘Everyone Teared Up’

Adam Scott attended one of the biggest celebrity weddings of the year, but the part that stayed with him had little to do with the size of the guest list or the famous faces surrounding him.

The Severance star was among the roughly 1,000 guests at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s July 3 wedding at Madison Square Garden in New York City. During an August 24 appearance on TODAY, Scott said the scale was enormous but the ceremony itself felt unexpectedly familiar, according to NBC’s report.

Scott said his strongest impression was that it felt like a genuine wedding centered on two people who loved each other. Even inside an arena packed with high-profile guests, he remembered the ceremony producing the same emotional response as a much smaller celebration.

“Everyone teared up,” Scott said. “It was a really lovely, lovely event.” His comments offer another firsthand account of a wedding that looked enormous from the outside but that several guests have described as surprisingly intimate once they were inside.

Scott Says the Massive Wedding Still Felt ‘Regular’

Scott told TODAY co-anchor Craig Melvin that the event was obviously operating on a much larger scale than his own wedding, but that difference faded once the ceremony began. “You know what, I think the thing we walked away with, the impression we had more than anything, was that it was a real wedding,” Scott said. “You had the sense that these are just people who love each other.”

He acknowledged the unusual surroundings, adding that it was “kind of on a grand scale” and joking that there were considerably more people present than at his own wedding. “But at its core, it just felt like a regular wedding with two people coming together,” he said.

Other Guests Have Also Called the Wedding Surprisingly Intimate

Scott is not the first person who attended the wedding to describe a disconnect between its enormous scale and the way it actually felt in the room. PEOPLE noted that Brad Paisley, who attended with wife Kimberly Williams-Paisley, previously called it “one of the least pretentious weddings” he had ever experienced.

Good Morning America anchors Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos offered a similar assessment after attending. Stephanopoulos said it was “as intimate as it could possibly be” considering the venue, while Roberts noted that Swift and Kelce had invited longtime friends and neighbors alongside the recognizable names. “It was like any wedding that you would go to,” Roberts said.

Scott attended the wedding with his wife, Naomi Scott. Paul Rudd and his wife, Julie Yaeger, were also among the guests. The day after the ceremony, Scott shared a photograph of the two couples dressed for the black-tie celebration. The image showed Rudd and Yaeger posing beside Naomi and Adam before the event.

Scott kept his caption almost as private as the wedding itself, writing simply, “❤️T&T❤️.” The photograph became one of the few glimpses Scott personally shared from the weekend. PEOPLE reported that other attendees included Selena Gomez, Ed Sheeran, Emma Stone, Jennifer Lopez, Brad Pitt, Bradley Cooper, Gigi Hadid, Zoë Kravitz, Dakota Johnson and many others.

His Swiftie Daughter Stayed Up Waiting for the Details

Getting invited to Swift and Kelce’s wedding also created a complicated victory for Scott at home. Melvin asked whether the invitation had earned him “some serious dad points” with his teenage daughter Frankie, who is a major Swift fan. “Sure did, except I didn’t bring her,” Scott joked. “So I lost some points at the same time.”

Frankie still found a way to get an immediate report from inside the wedding. Scott said she stayed awake until he and Naomi returned home that night specifically so she could hear what had happened. “But she stayed up and waited for us to come home that night to get all the details,” he said.
