Amanda Kloots and Justin Gimelstob have ended their relationship after more than a year of dating, but Kloots says they remain close.
The 44-year-old television personality confirmed the breakup Wednesday, September 9, while attending the 8th Annual Daytime Beauty Awards in Los Angeles. Asked whether she and the retired tennis player were still together, Kloots told Page Six, “No, not currently, but we’re still very good friends.”
Kloots did not disclose when the relationship ended or describe a specific reason for the split. She said she has been focusing on work, her 7-year-old son Elvis and herself, describing the period as “healing and rewarding.”
She also has not ruled out another relationship. Kloots said she still believes in love and “definitely” wants it in her life, more than a year after she and Gimelstob made their relationship public at a Beverly Hills event in April 2025.
Kloots Confirmed the Split While Being Honored for Her Fitness Work
Kloots attended the Daytime Beauty Awards to receive Outstanding Achievement in Fitness. Harry Jowsey presented the honor and spoke about the support Kloots had given him, while she used her acceptance speech to encourage the audience to keep moving and live in the present.
Her breakup comments came during a separate conversation at the event. Kloots said she has been concentrating on becoming the best version of herself rather than dwelling publicly on what ended the relationship.
There was no public breakup announcement from either Kloots or Gimelstob before she was asked about their status. They had continued appearing together into 2026, including a February 23 date night at the Los Angeles premiere of ABC and Hulu’s Scrubs revival.
The Relationship Started With a Friendship

Kloots and Gimelstob knew each other well before they became a couple. He first saw her at a Formula 1 race in Las Vegas and later joked that he considered it their first date, but Kloots said their actual first date did not happen until roughly a year and a half later.
Mutual friends kept them in each other’s lives, and they also played tennis together before the relationship became romantic. That friendship meant Gimelstob had already met Elvis before Kloots began dating him.
“It kind of happened very naturally, which is great,” Kloots told PEOPLE when they made their red carpet debut at An Unforgettable Evening benefiting the Women’s Cancer Research Fund on April 28, 2025.
Kloots called the relationship “very new” and “absolutely lovely” at the time. Gimelstob said he had admired her before she gave him a chance and joked that he hoped they would never leave the “courting phase.” Kloots described him as a wonderful man and father, while Gimelstob praised her as a mother and said he admired the way she treated other people.
They Continued Appearing Together Through Early 2026
The couple remained relatively private after making the relationship public, but they appeared together at several events. In September 2025, Kloots joined Gimelstob at the U.S. Open in New York, where the former professional player had once competed.
They were photographed together again on February 23, 2026, at the Scrubs premiere at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. The appearance came more than nine months after their first red carpet together.
Gimelstob, 49, retired from professional tennis in 2007. He won mixed doubles titles at the Australian Open and French Open with Venus Williams in 1998 and later worked in broadcasting and other roles within professional tennis.
Kloots has continued working across television, fitness and podcasting. At the September awards ceremony, she described work as one of the areas receiving most of her attention following the breakup.
Kloots Says She Still Wants to Find Love
The split follows a period in which Kloots has spoken openly about what dating has been like since the death of her husband, Broadway actor Nick Cordero. Cordero died in July 2020 at 41 after complications from COVID-19. He and Kloots married in 2017 and welcomed Elvis in 2019.
Gimelstob was Kloots’ first relationship that she publicly confirmed after Cordero’s death. In an August interview with Us Weekly, Kloots said dating after losing a spouse had taught her more about what she needs from a relationship now.
“Letting love back into your life is a journey,” she said. Kloots explained that she can continue loving Cordero while still having room for another person in her life, adding, “I want to love again and I know Nick would want me to love again.”
She has also turned those experiences into her new Dear Media podcast, Good Grief with Amanda Kloots, which launched in August and focuses on life after major loss and change. Asked at the Daytime Beauty Awards whether she still wants romantic love in her future, Kloots answered, “Definitely.”
