Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick celebrated 38 years of marriage without a red carpet or crowded party. Their anniversary weekend involved a canoe, a quiet lake and a pun Sedgwick was probably never going to let pass.
Sedgwick shared two photographs from the outing on September 9, five days after the couple’s anniversary. She and Bacon sat together in a canoe wearing plaid overshirts, with Sedgwick in a baseball cap and Bacon in sunglasses. “Perfect anniversary weekend. ❤️ Canoe believe it’s been 38 years?!” she wrote in the post.
Bacon had marked the actual anniversary on September 4 with a photograph from nearly 20 years earlier. The image showed the couple dressed for the 2006 Primetime Emmy Awards and sitting close together in the back of a car. His caption was even shorter: “38 years with my love.”
Bacon and Sedgwick married on September 4, 1988, after falling in love while working together on Lemon Sky. Their latest anniversary also comes during another stretch of professional collaboration, with the couple now sharing directing duties on a movie starring their two adult children.
The Anniversary Weekend Came With a Canoe and a Pun

Sedgwick’s September 9 post showed how the couple spent at least part of their anniversary weekend. PEOPLE reported that both wore plaid overshirts while sitting together on the water, with one photograph showing Sedgwick smiling toward Bacon from the other end of the canoe.
The actress kept the caption to her “perfect anniversary weekend” and the “Canoe believe” joke. She did not identify the lake or offer a longer account of the trip.
The outing arrived after a year in which the couple have continued working together and appearing alongside their children. Bacon and Sedgwick share son Travis, born in 1989, and daughter Sosie, born in 1992.
Bacon Reached Back to the 2006 Emmys

Sedgwick wore a ruffled gray Armani gown to the ceremony, while Bacon wore a black suit. PEOPLE reported that the couple shared the throwback image in a joint Instagram post with Bacon’s message, “38 years with my love.”
The photograph dates to the year Sedgwick’s TNT drama The Closer received its first major Emmy attention. She was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series that year and later won the category in 2010.
Bacon and Sedgwick have regularly marked their anniversaries online. For their 30th in 2018, Bacon posted a video of the pair singing the Bee Gees song “To Love Somebody” together.
They Fell in Love While Making ‘Lemon Sky’
The actors began their relationship while working on the television adaptation of Lanford Wilson’s Lemon Sky in 1987. Sedgwick had technically encountered Bacon years earlier as a young theatergoer, but the production was where they got to know each other as adults and began dating.
They became engaged in December 1987 and married the following September. Their careers have crossed repeatedly since then, including acting together in projects such as Pyrates, Murder in the First, The Woodsman and Loverboy.
Their newest collaboration involves the entire immediate family. Bacon and Sedgwick co-directed and star in the horror comedy Family Movie, with Travis and Sosie also appearing in the cast.
The family attended the movie’s New York screening at Film at Lincoln Center in August. Bacon told PEOPLE that directing alongside Sedgwick felt familiar because of the way they already work together and how quickly she notices details he may miss.
Family Movie follows a filmmaking family whose low budget horror production turns into a real slasher situation when a body is discovered on set. Variance is scheduled to release the film in theaters on April 23, 2027.
