Amy Lee got to watch her son discover metal from one of the best possible places: inside a stadium while Metallica played.

The Evanescence frontwoman recently brought her 11-year-old son, Jack, along while the band toured with Metallica on the M72 Tour in Australia and New Zealand. People reported that Lee described the trip as a powerful full-circle moment in a new Loudwire interview.

“I got to bring my son, who’s 11 now — just at the perfect age to fall in love with metal,” Lee said.

The Metallica Moment Happened During “Nothing Else Matters”

Lee said one specific part of the tour stayed with her.

During Metallica’s performance of “Nothing Else Matters,” light rain began falling in the stadium while Jack watched the show. Lee said she could see the song land for him in real time.

“Him getting to experience that in the stadium, rain gently starts falling during ‘Nothing Else Matters,’ I’m just watching his mind go like, ‘I’m in,’ ” she told Loudwire, according to People.

For Lee, the scene did more than give her son a memorable concert night. It reminded her of the age when music first started shaping her own life.

“It was such a good thing for my heart and took me back to being that age and falling in love with music,” she said.

Metallica Made the Tour Feel Welcoming

Lee also praised Metallica for the way the band treated Evanescence during the run of shows.

She said the group was gracious to both her band and her family, which made the experience easier than stepping into another artist’s massive touring world.

“They were so great, they were so gracious,” Lee said. “You never know how it’s going to be coming into somebody else’s world.”

The tour gave Evanescence a stadium-stage moment beside one of metal’s defining bands. For Jack, it also became an early lesson in what heavy music can feel like when the song, the crowd, and the weather all line up.

Evanescence Is Entering a New Album Era

The family moment arrives as Evanescence prepares to release its sixth studio album, Sanctuary, on Friday, June 5.

Lee told People the new record is built for listeners who need music to help them feel understood or less alone.

“I feel like we’re in a moment where words are really important and every single line is an opportunity,” Lee said.

After the album release, Evanescence will return to the road. People reported that the band’s summer tour begins June 11 in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Lee’s Metallica story gives the rollout a personal note. She is preparing to send a new Evanescence album into the world while watching her own son discover the kind of music that changed her life.
