Angelina Jolie has sold her historic Los Feliz estate for $24.75 million, nearly five months after putting the property on the market for $29.85 million.
The Oscar winner, 51, completed the sale Sept. 24. Jolie purchased the estate for $24.5 million in June 2017, less than a year after filing for divorce from Brad Pitt, according to People.
The approximately 11,000-square-foot mansion sits on more than two acres inside the gated Laughlin Park neighborhood and includes six bedrooms and 10 bathrooms. Its best-known former owner was filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille, who acquired the property in 1916 and lived there until his death in 1959.
Jolie had previously said she expected to leave Los Angeles once her youngest children, twins Knox and Vivienne, turned 18. They reached that milestone in July.
The Estate Sold for $24.75 Million After a $29.85 Million Asking Price
Jolie listed the property in May with Ernie Carswell of Sotheby’s International Realty and Jon Grauman of Resident Group. The official listing described the compound as a rare piece of Hollywood history and emphasized its privacy inside one of Los Feliz’s best-known gated enclaves.
In addition to the Beaux-Arts main residence, the property includes a guest house studio with its own living room and fireplace, a pool house, fitness studio, tea house and separate garage with a security station.
The grounds contain mature trees, gardens and rolling lawns, while the property’s elevated position provides views toward the Hollywood Hills and Griffith Observatory.
Jolie lived there with her family through much of the period following her 2016 separation from Pitt. The $24.75 million sale price is $5.1 million below the original asking price but slightly above the $24.5 million she paid nine years earlier.
Cecil B. DeMille Lived There for More Than Four Decades
Architect B. Cooper Corbett conceived the main residence in 1913, only a few years before DeMille purchased it as Hollywood’s film industry was beginning to expand.
DeMille later acquired the neighboring residence, which had previously been occupied by Charlie Chaplin, and incorporated it into the larger compound. Architectural Digest reported that the two residences were connected by a glass conservatory.
DeMille remained at the estate for more than 40 years, and his family retained the property for decades after his death. The home changed hands only a handful of times before Jolie purchased it in 2017.
Before her acquisition, previous owners completed an extensive multiyear restoration of the residence and grounds while preserving much of the property’s historic character.
Jolie Had Planned to Leave Los Angeles Once Her Twins Turned 18
Jolie spoke publicly about eventually leaving Los Angeles well before putting the estate up for sale.
“I grew up in this town. I am here because I have to be here from a divorce, but as soon as they’re 18, I’ll be able to leave,” she said in a 2024 interview about remaining in Los Angeles while Knox and Vivienne were still minors.
She said she expected to spend significant time in Cambodia and travel to visit family members living elsewhere in the world. Jolie adopted her eldest son, Maddox, from Cambodia and has maintained personal, humanitarian and filmmaking ties to the country for more than two decades.
The actress has not announced where she intends to establish a permanent primary residence following the Los Feliz sale.
Jolie and Pitt share six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne. Their divorce was finalized in December 2024, more than eight years after Jolie initially filed.
