Anna Faris says the project that helped her through her divorce from Chris Pratt was not a movie, a TV comeback, or a public reinvention. It was her podcast.
The Scary Movie star discussed that period in a new Variety interview, where she looked back on the sadness and scrutiny that followed the end of her marriage. Entertainment Weekly reported that Faris credited Anna Faris Is Unqualified with giving her a place to feel connected during the split.
Faris and Pratt separated in 2017 after eight years of marriage. The former couple, who met while making Take Me Home Tonight, share a son, Jack.
Her comments come as she is also talking about returning to Scary Movie, the spoof franchise that helped make her one of the most recognizable comedy stars of the 2000s.
Faris Said the Divorce Came With Heavy Scrutiny
Faris told Variety she was “feeling sad” during the divorce and said the public attention around the split was difficult to absorb after years of trying to protect her own sense of self in Hollywood.
She said she had tried to be careful about how much the industry shaped her, but added that she had been on “a spectrum of fame” for 26 years and could not pretend it had not affected her. Entertainment Weekly reported that Faris pointed directly to “the scrutiny” when describing that period.
Unqualified Gave Her a Place Outside Hollywood
Faris hosted Anna Faris Is Unqualified from 2015 to 2023. The show featured celebrity guests and listener advice, but Faris told Variety the podcast also gave her a space away from the usual Hollywood structure.
“I wanted, like, four people to listen and to build my own secret community,” Faris said, according to Entertainment Weekly. She said she wanted “an avenue outside of Hollywood” where she could connect with people directly.
Faris said she did not reveal much about her personal life on the podcast, but knowing she could speak if she needed to brought comfort. She also said the show made her think about writing and imagine another version of her career.
She Has Spoken Carefully About the Pratt Divorce

Page Six also covered Faris’ comments, noting that she rarely goes into detail about the divorce years after the split.
Faris has not turned the breakup into a running public subject. In the Variety interview, she spoke more about sadness, scrutiny, and the need for connection than about specific details from the end of the marriage.
Scary Movie Put Her Back With Marlon Wayans
The new interview also comes as Faris returns to Scary Movie with Marlon Wayans. Entertainment Weekly reported that Faris said she feels like she is in the middle of a comeback and is grateful when people still approach her about The House Bunny, Scary Movie, or Mom.
Faris previously told Entertainment Weekly that reuniting with Wayans on the new Scary Movie felt meaningful because the franchise had given her a lasting connection to comedy audiences. She said the reunion made her feel valued by the series in a way she had not expected.
