Sean “Diddy” Combs’ projected release from federal prison has moved again, continuing a series of changes to his 2028 timeline.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons now lists February 5, 2028 as Combs’ projected release date from FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey, according to TMZ. His previous listed date was February 20, moving the current projection forward by 15 days.
No public explanation has been given for the latest adjustment. Federal release projections can change as sentence calculations and earned credits are updated, and the Bureau of Prisons has not publicly attributed this change to any specific event.
Combs is serving a 50 month sentence after a federal jury convicted him in July 2025 on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. Jurors acquitted him of racketeering conspiracy and two sex trafficking charges. He is also appealing his convictions and sentence.
The New Date Is 15 Days Earlier Than the Last Projection
Combs’ projected release date has moved several times since he was sentenced in October 2025.
Federal inmate records were showing January 24, 2028 by late July. ABC News reported that the January date had moved forward from February 23, with no reason given for the adjustment. That projection changed again in early August, when the BOP listing moved to February 20.
Wealth of Geeks reported at the time that no official source had linked the later February date to Combs’ reported prison altercation.
The newest February 5 projection is later than the January date briefly listed in July, but 15 days earlier than the February 20 date that followed it.
The Prison Fight Has Not Been Publicly Linked to the Changes
Combs was involved in an altercation with another inmate at Fort Dix in July. A source familiar with the incident told ABC News that another prisoner made a remark to Combs before the confrontation and that Combs was subsequently placed in solitary confinement.
TMZ reported that prison staff quickly stopped the fight and that Combs later returned from the Special Housing Unit.
The Bureau of Prisons has declined to discuss individual disciplinary matters, citing privacy, safety and security concerns. That leaves the public record with a clear sequence of changing dates but no confirmed explanation connecting the fight to any of them.
His Appeal Could Still Change the Larger Timeline
The BOP projection is separate from Combs’ continuing challenge to his criminal judgment.
His attorneys argued before the Second U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in April that the trial judge improperly considered conduct associated with charges on which the jury acquitted him when deciding his punishment.
Reuters reported that the three judge panel appeared divided during oral arguments. Combs is seeking relief from both his convictions and the four year, two month sentence imposed by U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian.
No appellate ruling changing the judgment has been announced. For now, Combs remains incarcerated at FCI Fort Dix with February 5, 2028 listed as his projected release date.
