Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds were not in New York City as Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s reported wedding weekend appeared to begin at Madison Square Garden.
Instead, the couple was seen in Lake Placid, New York, on Thursday, July 2, supporting their 6-year-old daughter Betty at a horse show, according to PEOPLE. The outlet reported that Lively, 38, and Reynolds, 49, were nearly 300 miles away from Swift and Kelce’s wedding festivities in Manhattan.
Neither Swift nor Lively has publicly said whether Lively was invited.
The Lake Placid sighting, however, added another public detail to months of reporting that the longtime friends have been keeping distance amid Lively’s legal dispute with her It Ends With Us costar and director Justin Baldoni.

PEOPLE reported that Lively and Reynolds were photographed cheering for Betty as she competed at a local farm in Lake Placid. Betty competed in several events during the day and placed first and second.
The family outing put them far from Madison Square Garden as Swift and Kelce’s wedding events were reportedly getting underway. Entertainment Weekly also reported that the couple was spotted nearly 300 miles from New York City on Thursday while wedding guests were arriving at MSG.
The Absence Renewed Questions About Swift and Lively’s Friendship
Lively and Swift were close for years. Swift is godmother to Lively and Reynolds’ three daughters James, Inez and Betty, according to PEOPLE, and the children have been connected to Swift’s music.
James had a voice cameo on Swift’s Reputation track “Gorgeous,” while James, Inez and Betty were name-checked on Folklore. Lively also directed Swift’s 2021 music video for “I Bet You Think About Me.”
The public history made the timing of the Lake Placid outing more noticeable, but it does not confirm that Lively and Reynolds were formally excluded from any event. Swift and Kelce have kept many wedding details private, and reports about the guest list have relied on sightings, sources and arrivals around Madison Square Garden.
The Baldoni Legal Dispute Pulled Swift Into the Story
PEOPLE reported that Swift and Lively began “taking some space” from each other in May 2025 amid Lively’s legal battle with Baldoni. Swift was served with a document subpoena by Baldoni’s lawyers, but the subpoena was later withdrawn.
A spokesperson for Lively told PEOPLE at the time that Baldoni’s legal team had withdrawn subpoenas directed at Swift and her law firm. Swift’s representative previously said the subpoena was designed to use Swift’s name to draw public interest, and said Swift’s only connection to It Ends With Us was permitting the use of her song “My Tears Ricochet.”
PEOPLE also reported that Swift and Lively’s private text messages were unsealed in the legal dispute in January 2026. A source told the outlet that Swift had only been trying to support Lively as a friend and wanted to stay away from the drama after the messages became public.
Swift’s Rehearsal Dinner Went Ahead at MSG
While Lively and Reynolds were in Lake Placid, Swift and Kelce’s reported rehearsal dinner drew a visible group of celebrity guests in New York. PEOPLE reported that the Thursday event at Madison Square Garden included Gomez, Dunham, Antonoff, Anderson, Andrews, Thompson, Olsen and Jones.
The wedding weekend follows Swift and Kelce’s August 2025 engagement announcement. PEOPLE reported that the couple’s relationship began after Kelce said on New Heights in July 2023 that he had tried to give Swift a friendship bracelet with his phone number at one of her Eras Tour concerts.
Swift and Kelce confirmed their romance publicly in October 2023 when they were photographed holding hands at a Saturday Night Live afterparty, according to PEOPLE.
