Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa reached 35 years of marriage this month, but their story did not begin with a wedding photo or a red carpet.
The couple married on June 8, 1991, after years of sharing music, rehearsals, and tour stages. People marked the anniversary with a throwback photo feature that reaches back to the 1980s, when Scialfa was already part of Springsteen’s E Street Band world.
The older photos show Scialfa as a musician before she became known to the wider public as Springsteen’s wife. She joined the E Street Band in 1984, during the Born in the U.S.A. era, and performed beside him before their marriage became part of his public life.
The anniversary gallery works because the marriage is only part of the story. The photos also show the band partnership, the Asbury Park connection, and the stage chemistry that came first.

People’s photo feature begins in the mid-1980s, with Springsteen and Scialfa performing during the Born in the U.S.A. tour and a June 1985 show in the Netherlands. Those images place Scialfa inside the band’s working life: singing, playing, and sharing the stage during one of Springsteen’s biggest commercial eras.
Their history reaches back to The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey, where both musicians performed in the 1980s. People previously reported that the two talked over a beer and became friends before Scialfa joined the E Street Band.
The Stone Pony Connection Became a Stage Partnership
By the Tunnel of Love Express tour in 1988, Springsteen and Scialfa’s chemistry had become part of the show’s visual story. People’s anniversary gallery uses photos from Rotterdam, London, and Paris to show them performing close together during a heavily watched chapter of his career.
Scialfa was not presented as background in those images. She was a vocalist, guitarist, and band member working beside Springsteen before the couple married at their Los Angeles home in 1991.
The Anniversary Comes After Scialfa’s Health Update
Springsteen and Scialfa later raised three children: Evan, Jessica, and Sam. People reported last year that the couple became grandparents in 2022 with the birth of their granddaughter Lily.
Scialfa spoke publicly about her health in the 2024 documentary Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. People reported that she revealed a 2018 diagnosis of multiple myeloma, saying the illness affects her immune system and has made touring more difficult.
In 2025, Scialfa marked their 34th wedding anniversary with a throwback photo from the couple’s first anniversary. People reported that the post looked back on their life together and noted the same June 8 wedding date that now marks 35 years.
