Chet Hanks confronted Eric André on the floor of ComplexCon, approaching the comedian in person more than three years after they publicly argued over his appearance on The Eric André Show.

Footage published by TMZ shows Hanks approaching André from behind and placing a hand on his shoulder. André initially turns toward him and extends a hand before the conversation grows tense.

“What are you talking about?” André asks during the exchange. Security steps between the men, and André eventually walks away with the group around him while Hanks remains with the people filming.

Hanks posted the video on Instagram on Oct. 5th, following the convention’s Oct. 3rd and 4th run at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Hanks wrote that André initially had “NO MEMORY WHATSOEVER” of criticizing him in the media after their television taping. He also mocked the comedian for attending the event with what Hanks described as four security guards.

According to Hanks, André later said he objected to Hanks “mocking Caribbean culture” through his use of a Jamaican accent. Hanks responded sarcastically in the caption, calling André “such a passionate cultural activist” and taking another swipe at the humor on his show. “Great running into you Eric!!!!” Hanks wrote at the end of the post.

André Said a Motorcycle Ride Put His Crew at Risk

In a March 2023 interview with Rolling Stone, André accused Hanks of riding a motorcycle around the production area and nearly knocking crew members off ladders. He described the behavior as dangerous and said the guest appearance had been difficult for the people working on the show.

André also said Hanks tried to prank the production back during the taping and that some of those moments were removed from the finished episode.

Hanks Said He Was Matching the Show’s Chaotic Style

Responding in Instagram videos that March, Hanks said he had watched episodes to prepare for the appearance and decided to play along with the show’s deliberately absurd, confrontational style.

Hanks said a rider had brought the dirt bike onto the stage, that he already knew how to ride and that he picked it up before taking it around the set.

Hanks recalled crew members warning him that he could get hurt, according to NME. “Chill I just popped a little wheelie,” he said, describing his response before putting the bike down.

Hanks accused André of resenting being outshone on his own program. André rejected that explanation in a separate Instagram video during the same dispute, calling Hanks’ account a “bold-faced lie.”

André Challenged Hanks to Repeat His Insults in Person

Hanks’ episode, “Don’t You Say a Word,” aired on June 18th, 2023, as Season 6’s sixth installment, with Natasha Lyonne and Diplo also appearing. Adult Swim uploaded Hanks’ interview segment to its official YouTube channel four days later. The televised conversation included voice impressions and an exchange about famous people named Tom.

In an interview published June 22nd, 2023, The Independent asked André whether the dispute had been manufactured to promote the new season. He rejected that suggestion and responded to Hanks’ insults with a challenge: “Tell him to say that s*** to my f***ing face.”
