Chrissy Metz Says GLP-1 Quieted Her ‘Food Noise’ and Helped Her Get Through 8 Broadway Shows a Week

Chrissy Metz spent part of her summer running around a Broadway stage eight times a week. For the former This Is Us star, keeping up with that schedule was an achievement she connected to improvements she experienced while taking GLP-1 medication.

Metz, 46, discussed those changes with Entertainment Tonight at the October 20 premiere of Apple’s Nocturne in New York City. Her account included benefits she said she had not expected.

The actress publicly discussed using the medication in August. She had consulted her doctors before deciding to try it, after years of searching for an approach to her health that worked for her.

Metz is also a paid partner of Ro, a telehealth company that provides access to GLP-1 treatment.

Metz Reports Less Inflammation and Less ‘Food Noise’

Metz told ET that inflammation had noticeably decreased. She described that change as particularly helpful while dealing with knee problems and perimenopause.

Another difference involved how much time she spent thinking about eating. Metz said the reduction in persistent thoughts about food, often called “food noise,” had given her more mental space to concentrate on other things.

That relief had surprised her. She had previously doubted accounts from people who said the medication quieted their preoccupation with food.

Her Decision Followed Years of Skepticism and Different Approaches

In her August interview with TODAY, Metz said she wasn’t interested in trying a treatment simply because her friends were using it. A conversation with a friend prompted her to look more closely at the option.

She had tried different diets and therapy, and her father’s obesity-related health problems had influenced her thinking. Metz said she wanted to take care of herself as she got older.

She also resisted making the number on the scale her main measure of progress. Focusing too closely on it, she explained, could become another preoccupation.

Metz played Angélique in & Juliet at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre from June 16 through September 13. The engagement marked her Broadway debut after years of television work, including playing Kate Pearson on This Is Us.

She had originally been scheduled to begin June 18 but joined the company two days early. Playbill documented her first performance and shared footage of her curtain call posted by the musical’s official Instagram account.

Weight Training and Daily Habits Remain Part of Her Routine

Metz’s health routine also includes lifting weights, which she says helps her feel stronger. By her August interview, she had been strength training with a trainer for about a year, alongside the movement required by her stage work.

In a separate conversation with PEOPLE at the premiere, she described journaling or meditating for even five minutes as a way to feel grounded and prepare for the day. Singing also remained important: she said she wanted to enjoy using her voice without constantly judging it.
