Christopher Griffith says his legal claims against Stefon Diggs are not an attempt to secure a quick financial payout, as the two remain locked in a federal case built around sharply conflicting accounts of a 2023 encounter.
Griffith told TMZ on July 17 that he has not demanded a specific dollar amount and is prepared to present his allegations in court. He said he wants someone held responsible for what he claims happened to him.
Diggs filed the original defamation lawsuit, alleging that Griffith made false statements accusing him of serious misconduct.
Griffith later filed counterclaims alleging that Diggs drugged and sexually assaulted him at the NFL player’s Maryland home in May 2023.
Griffith Says He Is Seeking Accountability
During the TMZ interview, Griffith rejected the suggestion that his counterclaim was a “cash grab.” He said the dispute reached court because Diggs refused to acknowledge Griffith’s version of the events.
Asked about Diggs calling him dishonest, Griffith replied, “I don’t know why liars lie.” He added that he was waiting for his opportunity to make his case through the legal process.
Griffith is seeking compensatory and punitive damages, but his filing does not identify a fixed amount. Diggs is also seeking damages and legal fees through his defamation claims.
Cardi B Questioned Griffith’s Account

Cardi B recently entered the public argument by questioning whether Griffith’s story had changed. In social media posts covered by TMZ, she alleged that an earlier version of his account omitted one of the sexual allegations that later appeared in his court filing.
Griffith said he respected Cardi and women generally but asked her to “take off the blinders.” He also said his relationship with people around Diggs began before Cardi became involved with the football player.
In his July 17 interview, Griffith said Cardi had chosen to believe someone he considers dishonest.
Diggs Filed the Defamation Lawsuit First
Diggs sued Griffith in 2025 after Griffith publicly discussed allegations connected to a gathering at Diggs’ home. Diggs claims the accusations were fabricated and damaged his reputation, Griffith maintains that his statements were based on what he says occurred.
The case is now proceeding in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, where Diggs is the plaintiff and Griffith is both the defendant and counterclaimant.
A federal judge ruled on several discovery disputes in June. Diggs was ordered to provide more complete answers about how he knew Griffith, their interactions in May 2023 and who was present at his Rockville home, TMZ reported.
The judge found that describing Griffith only as an “acquaintance” was insufficient and directed Diggs to provide a “truthful, complete, and non-evasive response.” The court also ruled that Diggs did not have to answer certain questions about the prior possession or distribution of controlled substances.
A Separate Case Involving Diggs’ Brother Was Settled
Griffith recently reached a settlement in a separate lawsuit involving Diggs’ brother, Darez Diggs, and a Los Angeles apartment complex. That complaint concerned Griffith’s allegations that he was attacked and had property taken in May 2023.
The separate lawsuit had sought $10 million, but the settlement filing did not disclose how much, if anything, Griffith received. Darez denied the allegations.
