Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez are officially husband and wife, bringing nearly a decade of speculation about their wedding to an unexpectedly quiet end. The couple married in Portugal on August 11th and announced the news with a minimalist photograph of their wedding bands.

Ronaldo and Rodríguez shared the image on Instagram with the simple caption “C❤️G.” TMZ reported the marriage shortly after the post appeared, although details about when and where the ceremony took place were not yet public.

Those details emerged soon afterward. The Associated Press confirmed through Ronaldo’s public relations team that the couple married Tuesday in a civil ceremony in Cascais, a coastal town in western Portugal near Lisbon.

The understated ceremony arrived only three days after a far more chaotic wedding story involving the couple. Hundreds of fans had gathered outside Funchal Cathedral in Ronaldo’s native Madeira after false rumors suggested he and Rodríguez were secretly getting married there, only to discover that another couple was actually walking down the aisle.

Their Five Children Attended the Private Ceremony

Ronaldo’s representatives described the Cascais wedding as “a private and intimate moment attended by their five children.”  The couple’s children are Cristiano Jr., twins Eva Maria and Mateo, Alana and Bella. Ronaldo and Rodríguez previously announced that Bella’s twin brother, Ángel, died during childbirth in April 2022.

The Cascais location also ended the recent speculation that the couple would marry on Madeira. Their representatives confirmed the ceremony took place on the Portuguese mainland, far from the crowds that had gathered in Funchal just days earlier.

The date carried an additional meaning. Rodríguez announced their engagement on August 11th, 2025, exactly one year before their wedding, by posting a photograph of the large oval-cut diamond ring Ronaldo had given her. “Yes, I do. In this and in all my lives,” Rodríguez wrote in the translated caption.

The engagement came after years of questions about whether the couple planned to marry. Ronaldo and Rodríguez met in Madrid while she was working as a sales assistant at a Gucci store, and their relationship became public in early 2017.

They went on to build a family while Ronaldo’s career took him from Real Madrid to Juventus, back to Manchester United and eventually to Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia. Reuters reports that the pair have been together since 2016.

The Real Wedding Came Three Days After Fans Crashed the Wrong One

The timing makes the actual ceremony particularly striking. On August 8th, hundreds of people descended on Funchal Cathedral in Madeira after rumors claimed Ronaldo and Rodríguez were planning a secret wedding there.

Instead, the bride walking into the cathedral was a woman named Nicole, while the groom waiting inside was Fábio. PEOPLE reported that the crowd included fans hoping to see Ronaldo and Rodríguez, along with journalists and tourists drawn by the false reports.

The confusion became so disruptive that Funchal Cathedral later said it had been difficult for the real bride to enter the church. After Nicole and Fábio’s identities became clear, the cathedral congratulated the newlyweds and shared photographs from their ceremony.

Ronaldo appeared amused by the mix-up. When local outlet JM Madeira posted footage of the crowd on Instagram, he responded with five laughing emojis.
