Demi Lovato is officially returning to Camp Rock as Mitchie Torres, ending months of carefully guarded speculation just days before the third movie’s Disney Channel premiere. Disney confirmed that Lovato will make a surprise cameo in Camp Rock 3 while also serving as an executive producer alongside Joe, Nick and Kevin Jonas.
The onscreen return had deliberately been left unconfirmed. When the movie went into production, Lovato was announced as an executive producer but was not listed among the returning cast, while director Veronica Rodriguez avoided giving away whether Mitchie would actually appear. Entertainment Weekly reported the confirmation on August 10, three days before the Disney Channel premiere.
Lovato has now described stepping back into Mitchie’s world as “so nostalgic and so healing.” The singer said she had a great time returning to the character and noted how much the franchise still means to her, nearly two decades after the first movie introduced Mitchie as an aspiring singer-songwriter.
Connect 3 returns to Camp Rock after losing the opening act for a major reunion tour, setting up a competition among a new generation of campers while familiar characters reconnect with the franchise.

Disney’s original 2025 announcement confirmed Joe Jonas as Shane Gray, Nick Jonas as Nate Gray and Kevin Jonas as Jason Gray, with Lovato attached behind the scenes as an executive producer.
The first teaser later incorporated Mitchie’s voice and songwriting journal without showing Lovato onscreen, keeping questions about her involvement alive. Rodriguez told Entertainment Weekly that Mitchie remained an important presence in the new story while declining to reveal whether Lovato had filmed a cameo.
Disney’s new announcement settles that question and now lists Lovato among the returning cast as Mitchie Torres, while continuing to describe her appearance specifically as a cameo. Lovato also addressed the return herself. “So nostalgic and so healing to step into the role of Mitchie again,” she said. “I had the best time. This film obviously means so much to me.”
Mitchie and Shane Are Back in the Same ‘Camp Rock’ Story
Lovato’s return puts Mitchie in the same installment as Joe Jonas’ Shane for the first time since Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam in 2010. Nick and Kevin Jonas are also back as the other members of Connect 3, while Maria Canals-Barrera reprises her role as Mitchie’s mother, Connie Torres.
Disney’s official cast announcement lists Lovato, all three Jonas brothers and Canals-Barrera among the returning performers. The original Mitchie-Shane story produced some of the franchise’s best-known music. “This Is Me,” Lovato’s duet with Joe Jonas from the first film, reached No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2008.
‘Camp Rock 3’ Still Hands the Spotlight to a New Generation
The main story follows Connect 3 as the band returns to camp in search of a replacement opening act. Liamani Segura stars as Sage, with Malachi Barton as Fletch, while Lumi Pollack, Hudson Stone, Casey Trotter, Brooklynn Pitts and Ava Jean are among the new campers competing for the opportunity.
The official Disney+ guide describes Sage as a determined camper at the center of the competition, with Hudson Stone playing her brother Desi, Pollack as cello prodigy Rosie, Trotter as drummer Cliff, Pitts as Callie and Ava Jean as Madison. Sherry Cola also joins the cast as Lark.
The movie introduces new music, including “One Beat Away,” performed by Segura and the cast. Disney confirmed that the song was released ahead of the movie as its first single.
Camp Rock 3 premieres August 13 at 8 p.m. EDT/PDT on Disney Channel and streams on Disney+ beginning August 14. The movie’s digital soundtrack is also scheduled for release August 14, with its vinyl edition following September 18.
