Diane Keaton’s children are remembering their mother with personal tributes on the first anniversary of her death.
Dexter Keaton White, 30, and Duke Keaton, 26, shared separate Instagram posts on Sunday, October 11, Entertainment Weekly reported.
The Oscar-winning actress died of pneumonia at 79 in October 2025.
Sarah Paulson, who worked with Keaton in the 1999 film The Other Sister, also posted a remembrance and left messages of support for both siblings.
Dexter Misses the Calls, Hugs and Adventures With Her Mother
Dexter wrote about still adjusting to being unable to telephone her mother, turn to her for a hug or spend time exploring together. Ordinary moments, she said, repeatedly bring that absence into focus.
“It somehow feels like yesterday and forever ago all at once,” she wrote on Instagram, according to PEOPLE. She ended her message: “I love you and I miss you. Always.”
She paired the tribute with a black-and-white photograph from her June 12, 2021, wedding to Jordan White. Before the ceremony, Keaton accompanied Dexter to Saint Clark Bridal Suite to help choose her dress. In a tribute shared after Keaton’s death, the California boutique recalled how she put its staff at ease and treated them like old friends.

“I love you Mom ❤️ Thinking of you every day ♾️,” Duke wrote alongside three family photographs. The images span childhood and later family outings, including one of Keaton embracing him while he wears a jack-o’-lantern costume.
Another shows the family together at an industry event, while a third captures a gondola ride in Venice. Paulson left three red hearts beneath Duke’s post. On Dexter’s tribute, she wrote, “Love you sweet Dex.”

“One year. Impossible. Laughing with you will always be what I remember most. I love you,” Paulson wrote in her own anniversary post.
She chose a photograph of herself laughing with Keaton and Dexter, all three dressed for cold weather. Their friendship continued for more than two decades after they worked together.
Dexter Has Remembered Her Mother at Other Milestones
On January 5, what would have been Keaton’s 80th birthday, Dexter shared a memorial tattoo and thanked tattoo artist Winter Stone for creating it. She also showed a black-and-white polka-dot manicure on Instagram Stories as a nod to her mother’s style.
On May 10, Dexter marked her first Mother’s Day after the loss with photographs from different stages of their lives, including a childhood beach outing and a moment together in a garden.
Keaton Wanted Dexter and Duke to Have Each Other
Keaton adopted Dexter in 1996 and Duke in 2001, raising both children as a single parent. In a November 2011 interview with Diane Rehm, she explained that she wanted Dexter to have someone to share life’s experiences with as their mother grew older.
Her own siblings had become increasingly important to her, and she wanted her daughter to experience that bond. Keaton also traced her decision to become a parent to a conversation with her father during his final illness. His regrets about risks he had not taken prompted her to reconsider the direction of her own life.
“The choice to adopt Dexter was the best decision in my life,” she told Anna Quindlen in an interview published by Penguin Random House.
She appreciated that her daughter’s personality was different from her own. As a parent, she emphasized listening without judgment and helping both children learn to think for themselves.
