Sean “Diddy” Combs is asking a judge to step into a discovery dispute in producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones’ civil lawsuit.
The new filing does not add a new lawsuit or a new allegation. It concerns medical records, written questions, and the information both sides must exchange before the case moves further through court.
TMZ reported that Combs claims Jones has failed to turn over medical records connected to the case. Combs’ team says Jones was supposed to sign a release for the records in November, but the release he provided did not comply with privacy rules.
Jones sued Combs in February 2024, alleging sexual assault, sexual harassment, threats, and other misconduct while he worked on Combs’ The Love Album: Off the Grid. Combs has denied wrongdoing.
Combs Says Jones Has Not Provided a Valid Medical-Records Release

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Combs argues that he should not have to produce a large number of documents or answer certain questions from Jones while Jones has not provided proper access to his own medical records.
Combs’ team described Jones’ discovery requests as abusive and improper. The filing asks the court to address the medical-records issue before forcing Combs to respond to more of Jones’ demands.
The dispute is part of discovery, the stage of a civil case where both sides exchange records, answer questions, and gather evidence. It is separate from the earlier fight over whether Jones’ claims were legally strong enough to continue.
Combs Also Objected to Questions About Cuba Gooding Jr.
The filing also objects to questions involving Cuba Gooding Jr. Jones previously alleged that Gooding was involved in an assault aboard Combs’ yacht, according to TMZ.
Combs’ lawyers argue that questions about alleged conduct or statements by third parties, including Gooding, are improper. That makes the new filing broader than the medical-records issue alone.
TMZ reported that Combs has denied all allegations of wrongdoing in Jones’ case and has previously called the lawsuit a money grab. Combs’ attorney also described Jones as a liar who filed a $30 million lawsuit for an undeserved payday.
Jones’ Lawsuit Was Partly Dismissed in 2025
The discovery fight follows a March 2025 ruling that narrowed Jones’ lawsuit but did not end it. People reported that U.S. District Judge J. Paul Oetken dismissed five of Jones’ nine claims against Combs.
The dismissed claims included Jones’ RICO claim, emotional distress claims, and breach of contract claims. The judge allowed other claims to continue, including sexual assault claims and a premises liability claim.
People reported that Oetken found Jones had pleaded specific alleged examples of unwanted sexual contact. At that stage of the case, the judge ruled that those allegations were sufficient to state a plausible claim.
Jones’ Attorney Said the Case Would Move Into Discovery
After the March 2025 ruling, Jones’ attorney Tyrone Blackburn told People, “A win is a win,” and said he looked forward to discovery.
The latest filing shows that discovery has already become combative. Combs wants medical-record access resolved, and his lawyers are objecting to some of the questions Jones wants answered.
